GdS: Predicted XIs for Milan vs. Roma – decision made on defensive department

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan head coach Stefano Pioli appears to have settled on the starting line-up that he will send out to face Roma in the first leg of the Europa League quarter-final tie.

There are some absences in defence given Fikayo Tomori is suspended after picking up a yellow card in the return leg against Slavia Praha, Pierre Kalulu is injured for a while longer yet and Jan-Carlo Simic does not qualify for the UEFA B-list in the squad.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below), Pioli will select a defence of Davide Calabria, Malick Thiaw, Matteo Gabbia and Theo Hernandez in front of the goalkeeper Mike Maignan.

In midfield it will be up to Ismael Bennacer and Tijjani Reijnders to occupy the control room again, with Ruben Loftus-Cheek operating ahead of them in a more advanced role.

Christian Pulisic will be the right winger, Rafael Leao should be on the opposite flank and Olivier Giroud is down as the man leading the line.

The likes of Yunus Musah, Yacine Adli, Samuel Chukwueze, Luka Jovic and Noah Okafor are all available to lend a hand off the bench, too.

Probable Milan XI (4-2-3-1): Maignan; Calabria, Thiaw, Gabbia, Theo; Bennacer, Reijnders; Pulisic, Loftus-Cheek, Leao; Giroud.

Probable Roma XI (4-3-3): Svilar; Celik, Mancini, Smalling, Spinazzola; Cristante, Paredes, Pellegrini; Dybala, Lukaku, El Shaarawy.

  1. Acmilan need to press Roma hardly and hardly to score more goals and mark out Lukaku, dybala, elsharrawy and Pellegrini and we need to avoid errors close our space and penetrate their space with passes and pulisic, cheek, leao and Geroud with benercer and rejnder needs to be more dangerous

  2. All we need to do is to keep pressing them and not sit at the back, we need to score more goals in order to go to Rome with a good advantage because romas front 3 are very dangerous
