GdS: Predicted XIs for Udinese vs. Milan – Pavlovic returns in three-man defence

AC Milan are in Serie A action away against Udinese tonight, and Sergio Conceicao has a new tactical solution in mind.

Given Milan are ninth in the table and fourth place in nine points away, excitement has dwindled regarding the season finale. Conceicao’s own fate seems to be marked as virtually every major source is in agreement that he will leave the Rossoneri, with another revolution plotted.

The predicted starting XIs

The injury absentees are Ruben Loftus-Cheek (appendix) and Emerson Royal (calf), while Kyle Walker fractured his elbow and it required surgery meaning he will not make the trip, and Santiago Gimenez will miss out after taking a bang to his hip from David De Gea.

Walker’s absence seems to have led to a change in plan. La Gazzetta dello Sport predict a three-man defence with Fikayo Tomori, Matteo Gabbia and Strahinja Pavlovic ahead of Mike Maignan.

Alex Jimenez and Theo Hernandez will thus be pushed up to play wing-back, with Youssouf Fofana and Tijjani Reijnders down as a midfield double pivot.

The front three will see Christian Pulisic on the left wing and Rafael Leao on the opposite flank, either side of Tammy Abraham.

Predicted Milan XI (3-4-3): Maignan; Tomori, Gabbia, Pavlovic; Jimenez, Fofana, Reijnders, Theo Hernandez; Pulisic, Abraham, Leao.

Predicted Udinese XI (3-5-1-1): Okoye; Kristensen, Bijol, Solet; Ehizibue, Lovric, Karlstrom, Payero, Kamara; Atta; Lucca.

        1. No he’s not you’re being hyperbolic. He is triple teamed all game. Even when he’s “doing nothing” he’s opening space for other players

      1. It’s really surprised me reading comments like about our best those helped us to win scudetto. Very impressive comment. Keep it up

  1. Why still on 3 man’s attack ? Okey 3 central defenders is logical , but from last matches we know we need to play on two main strikers …
    And I know it’s stup*d idea but
    Pavlovic, Gabbia, Tomori
    Jimenez , Raijnders, Bondo, Theo
    Pulisic
    Abraham and Jovic

  2. A 352 without leao would have been better. An extra midfielder to fortify our weak midfield, n a two strikers make sense. Leao cannot give balance to theo. He doesn’t defend. U can blame theo all u want, but he doesn’t get any help from the lazy leao. Milan can do without him n I will be the happiest if he is sold.

  3. I like it. I want to see if we can get some midfield cover with this formation. Given Gimenez is injured, I dont see why both Abrahama nd Jovic should start, so having Abraham start with Puli and Leao next to him makes sense. We can sub in Jovic thereafter. Tomori has the speed plus hopefully Jimenez and Theo offer both Attach and some defence.

Theo, Bondo, and Leao are 1 yellow away from suspension. Next game is Atalanta, we cannot have them lose their heads. That said, expect a yellow or even a red card for Theo and possibily a yellow for Leao this game lol.

  4. It’s about damn time a Milan coach tries 3 at the back. Milan has extra CBs. It has a terrible defensive fullback on the left, who is stellar when coming forward. And it has a very questionable fullback on the right, who is a major upgrade to the massive failure on the right that preceded him. Milan has no DM to protect the defense. I’ve been screaming for 3 at the back all year.

  5. This will be interesting. But probably depressing to watch. I don’t think it will work. We need more men in the box. We won’t get that today either.

  6. Finalamente!!

A logical lineup for the 1st time this season.
This might actually be fun to watch

    This solves so many issues!
    Wing backs less exposed
Midfield will have a solid back up
Wingers dont need to track back

    I’d say we win 3 or 4 to 0

    1. It’s also the 100th different lineup/formation this season. ConceiCiao is trying his hardest to claim the moniker “Tinkerman”. Maybe next weekend he can try the 4-3-1-2 a bunch of noobs have been requesting for a while. Then the weekend after that maybe he can try Spalletti’s 4-6-0.
