GdS: Premier League defender’s salary could hinder Milan move

By Euan Burns -

AC Milan’s move for Clement Lenglet could be scuppered by the big wages that the French defender currently receives and Barcelona’s desire not to pay them.

As has been reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport (via Milan News), Milan are looking for at least one other defender who can join Matteo Gabbia in arriving this month, and Lenglet is one of the main targets.

He is currently on loan at Aston Villa from Barcelona and the Premier League are paying all of his salary. Were he to end that loan deal early and be back under Barcelona’s control, the Blaugrana would want to loan him out with an obligation to buy.

That means Milan would have to commit to a transfer fee for Lenglet, whilst also paying all of his wages as Barcelona do not want them on the books.

There are further complications with this deal as Villa coach Unai Emery appears to have no interest in ending Lenglet’s loan deal. He has not been starting many games, but Emery believes he is important to their season.

In the meantime, Milan retain interest in Arsenal duo Takehiro Tomiyasu and Jakub Kiwior but there is no movement on that front yet.

    1. Especially now that the discounts are done. These players are no longer economical and this player is far from being reliable. They need to start looking in Italy
