On Monday evening, Milan will take on Sampdoria in their first game of the 2021/22 Serie A season, which will start later today. Although some more signings are expected, Stefano Pioli has a good XI to rely on.
The likes of Alessandro Florenzi, Tiemoue Bakayoko and Pietro Pellegri are all very close to joining the Rossoneri. The former has even signed his contract but for Monday, Pioli will have to rely on the current squad.
According to Gazzetta Dello Sport (see photo below), the manager will use the 4-2-3-1 formation and not the 4-4-2 that was tested against Panathinaikos. Simon Kjaer is ahead of Alessio Romagnoli at the back, while Ismael Bennacer will be back from start.
Up front, Rafael Leao is expected to start on the left wing as Ante Rebic hasn’t impressed during pre-season. Olivier Giroud will be the centre-forward after what was a positive pre-season campaign for him, scoring three goals.
Probable Milan XI (4-2-3-1): Maignan; Calabria, Kjaer, Tomori, Hernandez; Bennacer, Tonali; Saelemaekers, Brahim Diaz, Leao; Giroud.
