AC Milan's French defender #19 Theo Hernandez

GdS: Probable Milan XI to face Roma – Hernandez to start at left-back

AC Milan will take on Roma tomorrow evening and Stefano Pioli is expected to make some changes to the starting XI, both compared to the Empoli and mid-week clash. Per a report, Theo Hernandez will start as the left-back.

Milan have struggled with many injuries in the last few weeks, forcing Hernandez to play in the centre of defence. Pioli was rather coy when asked about the matter during his press conference today, stating that he will decide tomorrow.

However, as reported by Gazzetta dello Sport, Hernandez is set to play in his regular position on the left-hand side. Simon Kjaer and Matteo Gabbia should be the starting centre-backs instead, which makes sense given that the Frenchman is clearly better on the flank.

Yacine Adli will be back in the midfield after starting on the bench last time out, with Yunus Musah forced to concede his spit. Up front, it will be the classic 11-9-0 trio as Luka Jovic failed to impress Pioli in the game against Atalanta.

Probable Milan XI (4-3-3): Maignan; Calabria, Kjaer, Gabbia, Theo; Loftus-Cheek, Adli, Reijnders; Pulisic, Giroud, Leao.

The game is scheduled for 20:45 CET and as San Siro is sold out, it should be a great atmosphere underneath the floodlights. A good display will be needed, though, otherwise the mood could quickly turn sour.

  1. “Theo Hernandez will start as the left-back….” Thank fk for that. With Dybala out too I’m pretty confident going into this.

  2. Gabbia looked lively af before his knock. Hope he keeps it up, I know there is potential somewhere in there for a very good cb 🙂

      1. You didn’t follow Milan then. Gabbia had always played well.

The 2 reasons he was loaned was:

        1) He wasn’t expected to get many minutes behind Tomori, Thiaw, Kalulu and Kjaer.

        2) He doesn’t play ‘Pioli’s favorite’ way, which is to be a fast, mobile defender who can counter attack. Gabbia (like Kjaer) is more of a big tall old school center back.

We all know Pioli can’t adapt players if they don’t play *his* way, so ….

        which is why:

        – CDK is doing great at Atalanta, he just dragged his junk across Piolo’s face last game. We could have used him but Pioli is a %&@!

        – Okafor did great last year but not here

Look for common denominator in all these cases and you’ll see Pioli’s face in living color.

        Ancora Pioli’d! Sempre Pioli’d!

  3. If this is the line up and formation it looks good .
Well done pioli ..3 point’s tomorrow against Roma .
Olivier Giroud and Rafeol leao on the scoresheet again ..I have complete confidence in out coach and our players ..We are doing much better than some of you are suggesting…..

    1. pulisić gaol around 82 min.. Giroud will flop so will leao.

Yeah we are soooooooo good we got out of CL, got out of coppa and are 3rd by dumb luck. napoli and lazio, who should be fighting for top 4, are somehow even worse then we are this season.. But that does not mean we arent cr*p, we are. very much so

  4. Why can’t we hire Mourinho.. If Roma could afford him, I bet we can too.. And he achieved a trophy with Roma squad, then he will do better with us

  5. Sensible lineup. Not fair to blame Jovic for Coppa performance. There was barely any service into the final third. And Musah was visibly rusty after his layoff.

Theo at LB is sorely missed. But the biggest challenge for this game is to maintain concentration and intensity in the second half.

  6. A more reasonable lineup (for once).
What I don’t like however is, while we can argue that we don’t have many other players in the midfield (Bennacer is with Algeria and Krunic is gone), the current 3 players (Reijnders, Adli and RLC) leave a lot to be desired defensively wise.
Perhaps Pioli should consider (or already considered), having Adli as an AM and RLC+Reijnders will be the double pivot.
It’s kind of sad to see Jovic ditched, but it’s not like Giroud doesn’t deserve to be a starter either.
