GdS: PSG and Man Utd show interest in star defender – Milan’s plan

By Oliver Fisher -

Both Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United have shown interest in signing AC Milan’s Theo Hernandez but the Rossoneri have a plan of action, a report claims.

As reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, Hernandez is currently under contract at Milan until 2026 and he is earning €4 million per season.

That makes him one of the highest earners at Milan but he certainly could earn a lot more at some of the clubs which have shown an interest in him.

With Hernandez expected to be a protagonist for France at Euro 2024 next summer and for the rest of this season at Milan, interest in him is only expected to intensify.

Milan do not intend to sell Hernandez and whilst Mike Maignan is the priority when it comes to a contract extension, Milan do want to take advantage of Hernandez’s admiration for the club, given he said in 2020: “I would stay here for life.”

That being said, were an offer similar to Newcastle’s for Sandro Tonali to arrive, something in the realm of €60m, Milan would certainly need to consider a sale.

It would be a big decision though given there is no natural replacement for him at the club right now.

  1. If we actually were to entertain offers for him it should be in the vicinity of 100 mil, if anyone offers us 50-60 mil they should be told to F off and stop making phone pranks in the future.

    1. Left and right backs are $ undervalued compared to other players, despite them being so important in today’s game. We won’t get more than 60M for him so I say keep him since he more valuable to our system.

      1. Psg bought Hakimi for €68.00m from inter so if they actually are interested in Theo they can cough up an extra 30 mil on top of that but i wouldnt sell him either at least not if we can renew his contract in time before it runs out.
Utd bought maguire for €87.00m so if anything we should charge the double from them 😛

        1. I would be insulted by anything less than 80m – 100m
He does need to stop being so petulant and work a bit harder. I don’t want him to turn into a Prima Donna

          1. The same here SJF below 80 mi would be an insult. I think his worst traits is that he sometimes makes completely unecessary freekicks and dives a bit too much as i also recently said in a different article but sure he can be a bit petulant in regard of the refs decisions which isnt really the smartest approach towards the man in charge of things but i still nevertheless reckons him as an at least a top 3 left back in the world if not the best.

On a sidenote the belgium vs sweden international match has been stopped as 2 swedsh fans been shot and killed in their car in what accordingly to media report seems like a random assassination because they wore swedish shirts,
We live in a crazy world.

          2. ok apparently it seems like its a terror attack as the suspected perpetrator apparently has posted videos ahead of the attack.

          3. I was watching the game just now, I couldn’t have imagined something like this would happen. What is our world becoming, man? Imagine going to watch a game to support your team and happens. I can’t begin to imagine how their families must be feeling right now.

          4. Hopefully at home and not in the stadium as that would be nerve wrecking to leave it with the clown is still at loose,
I might be a bit dark on the matter but the world has propably never been a good place to live in while mankind has been around but it certainly isnt getting any better either. I initially thought it was some lunatic belgian football fan who had shot them but it seems like a terror attack if the authorities are correct in who they suspect to be the perpetrator. Im often glad i to my knowledge hasnt put any kids into this mad world.
Yeah i agree i cant imagine how they feel.

  2. If they offer in excess of 80M then we should accept it, otherwise no. He is an integral part of our team. Also, I don’t really see him moving to clubs like United and PSG, with all due respect to them, they don’t have a project good enough to tempt a player in his prime to leave a club as good as ours to join them. If this was Man City or Real Madrid, then things would be different. Money can tame anyone, so let’s see how it plays out.

  3. I have been saying it for a few weeks now. I think Theo is going to be the Tonali of 2024, in the sense that he will be the big sale to fund 3-4 top reinforcements. It only makes sense. His next renewal request is certain to be in the 8-10m range, and that’s too high for us. The fact that we’re interested in Miranda as a “backup” is evidence that they’re preparing for this. Euro 2024 will be another opportunity to showcase. Then we’ll ask for 80m. That, plus the “usual” 50m transfer funds and we’ll get a top striker, top defensive midfielder (Krunic will probably also be leaving), another LB to compete with Miranda (or to fully replace Theo if Miranda doesn’t arrive) and then maybe another RB given that Florenzi is probably leaving too.

    1. I wouldn’t exclude what you are saying here Vero but i would change it from the year 2024 to 25 so the brazilian works as an understudy for a year and theo then leaves the year after. Contractually speaking it could offer an issue but thats how i think it will go down if he is to be sold and miranda is brought in but i could obviously be wrong though.

      1. Martin, it’s unlikely. We’ve already had too much trouble leaving contract renewals for the summer before they expire. We’ve had too much money just walk out the door. I think this is one of the main reasons Maldini and Massara were let go, in addition to a mediocre transfer market in 2022. I doubt this management will want to repeat those mistakes. The contract negotiation has to concluded BEFORE Euro 24 (because if he has a great tournament it will be even harder AND we won’t have time), and if they can’t come to an agreement he needs to be shopped around after Euro 24.

        1. You might be right there but it could also be that milan just renewed for a short term with the promise of him being allowed to leave the following year but i just think that due to theos importance to the team and how we play it wouldn’t make much sense to just swap him with a new player as that would be a difficult thing to do but who knows as i said you might be correct in in your assesments,

  4. ‘something in the realm of €60m, Milan would certainly need to consider a sale’

One the of the best LB in the world right now and only worth 60 million? Lol you’re nuts. Theo worth at least 100 million.

And if Milan sell Theo then who’ll replace him, Bartesaghi? The boy is still 17 years old with lack of experience. The fans and media pressure that he will play as good as Theo only will crush his growth.

  5. The shifts in tactical trends from using your fullbacks forward to your midfielders far more often is clearly impacting prices. Thiaw could end up going for more within a year or two. He is the mold everyone wants. Mobile stopper. Smooth on the ball.

    1. Thiaw reminds me A LOT of Kompany. A stopper able to move forward with speed beyond the middle line, then distribute the ball with effectiveness and ease.

Just hope he has less injuries

  6. Probably the second best LB in the world right now, which kind of speaks volumes about the defensive quality available in top leagues as imo Hernandez definitely has issues with his timing on step-ins.

IF we sell, we’d be buying down and we won’t be able to do much with 60m.

  7. Non sense, we don’t even have Theo’s proper backup then we sell Theo ?
Theo is already a Vice-Captain too, his role at ACM very encourage all his trait : A defender who like go forward, strong physically, and fast.

For Manchester United idea, clearly never consider it. It has been proven that MU is Star-Killer. Any big-star in Football got their career killed there : Phil Jones, Christ Smalling, Harry Maguire, Paul Pogba, Donny Van Beek, Jadon Sancho, and the latest : Rasmus Hojlund. They were wonderkids & have bright future, but then become some jokes at Manchester United.
