GdS: ‘Operation No.9’ – RB Leipzig talent tops Milan’s summer wish list

AC Milan know that they must invest in a new striker this summer ahead of the 2024-25 season, and a new name is reportedly at the top of their wish list: Benjamin Sesko.

This morning’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport (as seen below) reports that Sesko is a great candidate to become Milan’s No.1 target for the summer because he ticks all the boxes that the club are looking for.

The priority is to find a young striker who can lead the line for years, given Olivier Giroud is 37 while he and Luka Jovic have deals that expire in June, not to mention that the MLS is a temptation for the Frenchman.

The Rossoneri therefore want a player who has the potential to grow further (Sesko is 20), who is physical and ready to assert himself in the area and could become a guaranteed goal scorer for them.

For Giorgio Furlani and Geoffrey Moncada, the man who makes decisions from a transfer point of view, it will be the most complicated choice because while mistakes are allowed when it comes to signing depth players, they cannot miss with this signing.

Sesko moved from Salzburg to Leipzig for over €20m – staying in the Red Bull circle – but in Germany he is playing less than expected. In the league he has four starts and three goals, while in the Champions League he has two starts and two goals.

RB Leipzig have quality up front – Openda, Xavi Simons, Poulsen, Dani Olmo – and getting game time is not a given. However, his characteristics remain: Sesko is technical, he knows how to accelerate but he is coordinated.

How much would he cost? It’s difficult to say but those who estimate €40m aren’t far off. The comparisons with Erling Haaland, of course, are excessive because Sesko scores much less.

Another interesting note: his agent was at Casa Milan in the summer of 2022 to talk to Paolo Maldini. Sesko was admired then but that time the negotiation didn’t take off because the idea was for him to take the step to Leipzig.
