GdS: RedBird and Cardinale’s plan to bring Milan to the ‘top of European football’

By Oliver Fisher -

Gerry Cardinale has big plans for the future of AC Milan after RedBird Capital completed their takeover of the club yesterday.

La Gazzetta dello Sport (via PianetaMilan) have done a feature on Cardinale’s plans, starting with the letter he wrote to the employees of the club which stated: “Our priority is simple: achieve new successes on the pitch and have a sustainable business outside.”

“We will build on the incredible work you are doing and we will bring Milan back to where it belongs: at the top of European football,” Cardinale’s letter ended.

The new era of RedBird’s Milan under Cardinale will very much resemble the previous one of Elliott as it will focus on winning on the field, but also keeping the accounts in order and obtaining more revenue.

Crazy expenses on signings is therefore not realistic in the short term, while RedBird will not break the bank over Rafael Leao’s renewal either, but the future vision of the project of RedBird and Cardinale can mean everyone is calm.

RedBird’s plan provides for the enhancement of commercial revenues with alliances such as the one with the New York Yankees, transforming Milan into a media company, and then they will focus on building a new stadium.

It is likely that they will push the council to get a decision on San Siro and they will have Sesto San Giovanni on stand-by as a back-up location.

In terms of the club hierarchy, CEO Ivan Gazidis has a contract expiring in November, Paolo Scaroni will remain President, while Paolo Maldini and Frederic Massara will continue to lead the technical area.

  1. Cardinale is only interested in making money off his investment, he knows diddly squat about soccer especially Milan soccer whether it be Inter or the Rossoneri…….
