GdS: Referee Makkelie praised for handling of Chelsea-Milan including penalty shout

Referee Danny Makkelie has been praised for his handling of the game last night between Chelsea and AC Milan, getting the major decisions correct.

In today’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport (via PianetaMilan) they praise the Dutch referee Makkelie, who deserved a 6.5 out of 10 rating for his officiating of the game. The only real incident to watch carefully was Wesley Fofana’s possible foul in the penalty area on Rafael Leao.

However, the Portuguese winger was already in a precarious situation due to being off balance and then he fell to the ground while the Chelsea defender stole the ball fairly.

In the 33rd minute Mason Mount’s goal was rightly disallowed for offside, while the paper states that the yellow card for Rade Krunic for a foul on Loftus-Cheek in the 7th minute, Fode Ballo-Touré’s yellow for a challenge against Reece James and Fikayo Tomori’s caution for protesting were all fair.
