GdS: Roma still ahead for centre-back despite Pioli’s phone call – the reason

By Isak Möller -

AC Milan have decided to focus on free transfers this summer and in addition to Marcus Thuram and Youri Tielemans, Evan N’Dicka is on their list. However, the centre-back could end up at Roma instead.

N’Dicka’s contract with Eintracht Frankfurt will expire at the end of the month and he has been in talks with Roma for quite some time. Milan, on the other hand, only initiated talks a couple of days ago – after Paolo Maldini’s sacking.

According to Gazzetta Dello Sport, as cited by our colleagues at SempreMilan.it, Stefano Pioli has talked to N’Dicka about Milan’s project. However, the defender didn’t get the answer he wanted even though he appreciated the call, as Pioli was unable to guarantee a starting spot.

Roma, meanwhile, have already guaranteed a starting spot and that’s why they remain ahead in the race. They haven’t reached the finish line just yet, though, with the duel expected to be decided next week.

    1. My problem with Pioli is that no matter who he gets, even Haaland and De Bruyne at the moment, they would not start a game ahead of Messias and the likes until maybe December because they are not “Ready”. If they get a spot as subs, they would be lucky but they have to settle for the last 3 minutes of the game. And then one wonders why Adli etc lost confidence.

  1. My problem with Pioli is very simple. He’d get any player, even Haaland and De Bruyne and none of them would start a game ahead of Messias etc until maybe December because they are not “ready”. They would be lucky to enter as subs even. And when they do, it’s for the last 3 minutes of the game..And you wonder why none of the new guys had any confidence playing.

  3. Well well well…. let hope what was said by Scaroni…..that

“It is very true that Maldini had a certain impact in negotiations and to this day I are very grateful to him, but I must also say that nowadays – and I hope it doesn’t seem ungrateful – we don’t need him as much.”

Does not come back to hunt us in attracting players and in these negotiations. Moreover, Milan defence is still in its formative stage with only 2/3 guarantee starters and I would not see why Ndicka wouldn’t see that as a challenge to establish himself. Then again Pioli team management has been terrible this season, with us loosing points on games on paper should’ve been an easy win.

  4. It is not starting spot, but salary.

Theo Ndicka Tomori Kalulu, and Ndicka can cover left back for theo to rest.

But….. but ! Milan have salary cup and, that’s why Ndicka is going to roma. He had better salary. Ndicka is paid 1 million in Germany and Milan can’t bring free transfer to cover the roster !!!

  6. Hahahah, I wrote the same thing on Thuram’s article…
Ffs tell the guy you destine him for starter, convince him to sign, and check him/drop him during pre season…

    Stupid Pioli…

    1. That’s a simplistic view to take, the rationale for him stalling with the Milan decision is more complex than that with many factors at play.

The possible questions to think about.

      1. How have Pioli managed the squad over the course of last season?

      2. How much will he be asking for as a free player?

      3. Is Pioli the manager he would rather play for instead of Mourhino?

      4. With the sacking of Maldini and all that is going on with Milan owners not wanting to invest, is this club where I (Ndicka) will win trophies?

And there could be more …and more…and more

  7. Haaland wouldn’t even get a starting spot with Pioli because he won’t be “ready” so it’s understandable that this guy is skeptical too.

  8. Great going Pioli. This guy is more established CB than Thiaw and better than Kjaer at the moment who was great but age catch up to him. Why not tell him that he will be a starter then if he doesn’t perform you can drop him. Same thing with Thuram, how can you tell him that he will be a co-starter with Giroud. Giroud is 37 years old, he can’t be in front of Thuram in the picking order. Cardinale will learn preatty soon that Pioli is teribale with man management.

      1. Dechamp has the luxury to chose. We don’t. If we miss on Thuram there aren’t many other good free CF out there at the moment. That means will need to spend big on CF and have no money for RW. Or vice versa. If we had Kolo Muani we wouldn’t be even chasing Thuram or any other CF.

          1. Yes that’s the point. But first you need to bring Thuram. And you don’t do that by telling him he wont be a starter over a 37 year old. If he under performs of course you always have the option to bench him.

          2. Such a lie won’t be believed. He know he is behind Giroud as in the national team.

Such lie also shows that we don’t trust that he has fighter mentality.

  9. Hmmm… Pioli called?
Let’s see who’s charm works better: Mourinho vs Pioli.

Players have taken pay cuts to join Milan, because of Maldini’s call…

Maybe Cardinale or Scaroni or Moncada should call…

  10. Maldini this , Maldini that . Every article did you all ppl must mention him ? Is he bigger than AC Milan ? You all laugh and say mbappe bigger than PSG but yet you make Maldini bigger than AC Milan. Ndicka free transfer but he will be gone for Afcon in january- february, he choose ivory coast as his natonality football team not french anymore

    1. Some had the need to bring the name up because there’s a phone call involved here. And comparing Piolo’s call and the likes of Maldini, Mou, Xavi’s call is just too funny not to write about. Chill.
