GdS: Scamacca back in fashion for Milan as West Ham are open to a loan

By Isak Möller -

AC Milan are looking for a striker ahead of next season as they have struggled to find the back of the net this term. They have many names on their wish list, including the former concrete target Gianluca Scamacca.

Scamacca, currently at West Ham, has been linked with Milan many times over the years. Even after his loan spell at Ascoli, which was back in 2020, the Rossoneri kept a close eye on him but a move never materialised.

According to Gazzetta Dello Sport, the 24-year-old has struggled with injuries this season and this has heavily affected his season (eight goals). Therefore, West Ham looking for a new striker and are willing to send Scamacca out on loan, as per the newspaper.

Milan have been in talks with West Ham over the matter, albeit very preliminary and informal talks, as they would be more than willing to welcome Scamacca. And the striker himself is open to the move. A loan (perhaps paid) with an option could perhaps be the solution, but the value of the option would have to be defined.

In the meantime, Milan are fighting for Champions League qualification and it’s safe to say that their summer moves will depend on the outcome of that.

  1. Cheaper option can be chosen by Milan for their striker (Scamacca and Arnautovic). Kamada also can join to replace Diaz. Hence Milan still has enough budget for a quality right winger and Kessie-style midfielder operations.

  2. PLEASE. No more loan for one of the most – if not the most – important spot for the squad for next season.

What we need is a permanent fix, not a temporary bandaid here and there. The striker position has been delayed for too long, and it was just a stroke of beautiful luck that Ibra brought so much wealth to the team when he signed – hence the delay in searching for permanent striker.

However, this time it is a lot more dire, we haven’t had a reliable striker, who we could count on for the next 5 years at least. This is just embarassing for a team supposedly challenging for Scudetto and planning to go deep into CL. Could you imagine teams like Real Madrid playing a loan player as their target man??

The time to invest is now, and no more all these temporary fixes. Be more ambitious please. The team sure is ahead of schedule by winning Serie-A title early, but we stagnated if not downgraded since. Time to move back into the right track!

If the management thinks that Scamacca is the guy then fken buy him, don’t even settle for a loan to buy. (Not that I don’t like being unprotected in case he failed, but this is the necessary gamble, and to hopefully settle the guy better, instead of him having a two mind and be wondering about the future).

    1. Three centre forwards are needed, not one. Scamacca would probably arrive in addition to Arnautovic and if Pioli has balls, El-Hilali would also be promoted.

    2. “What we need is a permanent fix, not a temporary bandaid here and there.”

The fact is that Milan don’t have the money for “the permanent fix”. Those guys cost 60-100M€ and Milan have so many other holes to fix before they sink the whole ship.

Loan + option to buy is the way to go here.
