GdS: ‘Scene of a fibrillation’ – clarifications arrive after outrage at Scaroni-Leao comments

By Oliver Fisher -

The AC Milan fan base were briefly up in arms last night when some alleged comments from president Paolo Scaroni regarding Rafael Leao were widely reported.

As La Gazzetta dello Sport report, the traditional reception at the Quirinale with President Sergio Mattarella for Republic Day has become ‘the scene of a fibrillation’ surrounding Milan, because of something that Scaroni was purported to have said.

Answering a fan’s question about the summer mercato for Milan, Scaroni was asked about Leao’s future and the rumours suggesting that Milan could get around €150-175m for their star.

The president was reported to have said: “The priority now is a centre-forward. Leao? If they give us 150 million I will pack his bags for him.”

Scaroni shortly afterwards clarified to La Gazzetta: “I have never said anything like that, because I absolutely don’t think it. I was asked by a friend for information on Leao’s future and I replied that he has a €175m clause and that he will remain with us.”

In theory only those who were there and heard the conversation know what was actually said, but the club also denied that Scaroni made such comments in a message that was transmitted to us and other media outlets.

  1. In the end it doesn’t really matter if he said it or not. Scaroni already has quite a few and well documented idiotic statements that have put the entire club in a very unfavorable light so now whatever garbage is published, as long as his name is mentioned, no one doubts it.

Guy is a remnant of the old Elliott management and was kept around for the purpose of navigating Italian politics in the pursuit of a new stadium, and he failed miserably. He has embarrassed the club countless times, and he outlived his purpose. There is no need to keep that clown in a position of such importance any longer.

  2. Journalists putting up different stories just for the news to sell. Clearly, this management is trying to build a new Milan, and Pioli leaving, shows it. For me, I don’t have time for most stories I see; they are just fabrications to get people to waste their data. Even though we didn’t win anything, most of the players signed came good. That gives us hope for the future.

  3. Whether he said it or not, the truth is Milan would sell Leao in a heartbeat for 150M. As would every other team in the world. Everyone sells, especially if someone else is eager to wildly overpay.
We could only wish some other club would actually be foolish enough to offer anywhere near that amount.

  4. He said… She said…. if someone pays the release clause ,all of Curva Sud will carry Leaos’ bags during a parade to Linate.

    1. Unless the management decides to distribute the money to the fans, I really wouldn’t bet on that. It’s a different mindset than on this website’s comment section. These people are driven by passion and Leao is a fan favorite. As Jerry says “money doesn’t buy trophies”. Keeping our best players is the only way.

      1. Its never be the only way, inter lost their star almost every year and yet they still won something every year. To win trophy, the team need better foundation wich something this management want to create. You better hope they cook something or this club will experience year zero every year.
