GdS: ‘Scene of a fibrillation’ – clarifications arrive after outrage at Scaroni-Leao comments

The AC Milan fan base were briefly up in arms last night when some alleged comments from president Paolo Scaroni regarding Rafael Leao were widely reported.

As La Gazzetta dello Sport report, the traditional reception at the Quirinale with President Sergio Mattarella for Republic Day has become ‘the scene of a fibrillation’ surrounding Milan, because of something that Scaroni was purported to have said.

Answering a fan’s question about the summer mercato for Milan, Scaroni was asked about Leao’s future and the rumours suggesting that Milan could get around €150-175m for their star.

The president was reported to have said: “The priority now is a centre-forward. Leao? If they give us 150 million I will pack his bags for him.”

Scaroni shortly afterwards clarified to La Gazzetta: “I have never said anything like that, because I absolutely don’t think it. I was asked by a friend for information on Leao’s future and I replied that he has a €175m clause and that he will remain with us.”

In theory only those who were there and heard the conversation know what was actually said, but the club also denied that Scaroni made such comments in a message that was transmitted to us and other media outlets.
