GdS: Scudetto-winning veterans facing uncertain future at Milan

By Oliver Fisher -

There are question marks surrounding a few of the more experienced members of the AC Milan squad ahead of the 2024-25 season, according to a report.

La Gazzetta dello Sport (as seen below) report that the likes of Theo Hernandez, Mike Maignan, Rafael Leao and Fikayo Tomori are attracting interest from top clubs while the management intend to build around a few summer signings.

They also talk about some of the players in the team that have their future in the balance. In the current squad there are six other key players who were part of the 2021-22 Scudetto-winning side.

Davide Calabria is one of them, and though his deal expires in 2025 discussions will begin about a renewal at the end of the January transfer window. Ismael Bennacer is also destined to stay.

The future of Alessandro Florenzi and Matteo Gabbia is less clear, while that of Simon Kjaer appears far from Milan. The Dane’s contract will expire at the end of the season, like that of Olivier Giroud.

The Frenchman told the paper: “We have not yet discussed the topic of a renewal with the club, I will decide later, as a footballer and as a family man.”

In case of farewell, the idea of a move to the MLS is the most likely hypothesis. One thing is for sure, if Giroud stays he will move from being the starter to an alternative, while the hope is that Luka Jovic continues scoring.
