GdS: Simic warms his engines – third Primavera debutant of the season likely

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan have a real emergency to contend with in the defensive department for Saturday’s visit of Frosinone, with Fikayo Tomori the only fit senior option.

As La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below) reports, when Malick Thiaw went off with a hamstring injury against Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday night the decision was made to bring on Rade Krunic at centre-back.

However, at the weekend it could be the turn of the 18-year-old Jan-Carlo Simic, who was fit but not eligible for use in midweek because he does not qualify for the UEFA squad ‘List B’. Simic led the defence of Abate’s Primavera in the 4-1 defeat of Borussia of the same age in the YEFA Youth League, but he has been training at Milanello with the first team for days.

Last Saturday, while sat on the bench for the win over Fiorentina, he celebrated the record-breaking debut in Serie A of his 15-year-old team-mate Camarda. Now he is warming up, because against Frosinone it could be his turn: he would be the third Primavera player to make his senior debut after Camarda and Chaka Traorè.

Thiaw’s injury has been added to those of Pierre Kalulu, Marco Pellegrino, Mattia Caldara and Simon Kjaer. It is difficult to imagine that Pioli will repeat the Krunic experiment, while the staff continue top hope that Kjaer can return, something difficult but not impossible.
