AC Milan will have to think about the squad lists when conducting their mercato business this summer, seeing as they are currently out of slots.
Whenever the mercato rolls around, the squad list rules tend to be brought up as well. In Serie A and in the Europa League, Milan need to adhere to certain regulations when it comes to homegrown, association-trained and foreign players.

In the Europa League, 17 players can be foreign, while the remaining 8 have to be either club-trained or association-trained (4 of each). It’s a tad easier in Serie A as players under the age of 22 are exempt from the rules, but the rest is the same.
Squad list situation
As highlighted by Gazzetta dello Sport this morning (via SempreMilan) Milan currently have 20 foreign players in their squad. That includes the new signings Gila and Ramos, as well as Odogu and Kostic (who don’t qualify for List B), Tomori, Fofana, Loftus-Cheek, Estupinan, Musah and Chukwueze.
Clearly, especially with Estupinan close to Aston Villa, there will be some departures among these players. That said, the squad list situation is a very good indicator of what Milan need to do next, at least if they want to minimise the risk.
They could always decide to sign two more players, and sell five after that, but there is never any guarantee that a sale will go through (if you want good terms).
For the lack of supposed talent of italian players. The europa (and UCL) squad lists are something we seem to struggle to plan for.
Comotto/ Camarda/ Torriani are club trained but also qualify for list B
Really we only have Bartesaghi + Gabbia as club trained, and Ricci as league trained. For that reason id say keep Ricci unless we get a crazy good bid from another team. Sell RLC / Musah who are awful. And Fofana who is sometimes quite good (and arguably better than Ricci) but not critical to the squad.
By that logic the links to someone like Zaniolo makes sense

with Juve financial crisis get Cambiasso for 30-40M and go for Lucumi (contract until 2027) instead of Inacio. their total would have similar cost to Inacio + Doue/Dedic. I guess would also equal to Leao’s sale price.
Brahim Diaz for 25-30M and Karetsas/Alajbegovic for sub. we would be getting 4 Serie A proven players who would not need time to get used to the league.
Sell Ricci and get Nicolo Fagioli. Ricci is an average footballer who is scared to make vertical passes. He often chooses the safe passes even when he has options to make a vertical pass and put his teammates on goal.
I would sell Ricci in a heartbeat or trade Fiorentina for Fagioli who can play both DM and AM.
Agree. Have never seen what his strengths are. He seems to be a bit pointless.

the younger done good enough @Cremonese, he can play multiple pos, even scored goals more than Gimenez & Fullkrug last season as CB/FB
UEFA and Serie A squad rules are basically the same thou? Both have max 17 foreign players and 8 home grown (4 club, 4 league trained)?
3rd goalkeeper Pietro Terracciano is also league trained btw.
But no matter what we know we can only have 17 foreign players so thats alwats the cap to look at for the non italians.
After that we can just fill the squad with as many academy and italian trained players as we want to reach 25.
Thats why Zanilo makes sense for the attacking midfield right position as you mentioned. He wont affect the 17 foreign players.

So for every non italian player we want to sign, not only do we have to sell off players 18-23, but also one from the 1-17 list.
For example (random examples):
Odogu out, Inacio in
Musah out, Karetsas or Dias in
Gimenez out, Icardo or Jesus in
But no matter what, we got like 6 players we need to offload ASAP, then basically sell another one from spot 1-17 for every new foreign player to sign. Or we end up with players on they payroll that we cant use.
Thats why i think we wont see any new signings (at least non italians) for like 2 weeks until 6-7 players been sold/contracts terminated. We simply got to many foreign players right now, and they seem damn hard to offload.
It’s 24 foreigners with Kostic.
Because none of the long list of our players are other teams’ first choices, we have to wait for some of their other options disappear first. RLC for example, maybe he’s on a list for Coventry (although more likely journalists making up stories because of Lampard link) but maybe 8th or 9th choice.
So until other dominoes fall, many of the players we’d be willing to part with won’t have suitors ready for them.
Musah isn’t likely to stay.
I mean of the current players right now. But if they manage to to get rid of players 18-23, hes one of the first at risk of going, together with Fofana and Odogu.

Initially, yes, but I am guessing that there is going to be a “battle” for that third spot between Kostic and Camarda.
Would make more sense to put Kostic in the futuro and give Camarda a real chance with the senior team. Both for squad list reasons, and the symbolic power of giving acadamy players a real shot, imo.

Argentine players should never be signed for Milan ever. Some of the worst cheats in the game. I can’t believe Leandro Paredes ever played for any team in the Serie A. Dude isn’t a real player. He’s a thug.
