There is a particular statistic that puts AC Milan’s Olivier Giroud in the same bracket as strikers such as Manchester City’s Erling Haaland and Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane.
As La Gazzetta dello Sport has pointed out (via Pianeta Milan), Giroud’s two headed goals against Napoli on Sunday night took him to a total of seven headed goals in the year of 2023.
He is known for his heading abilities, but that is still a very good tally. So good in fact, that the only two players that can match his record are Haaland and Kane.
In fact, Haaland only reached seven headed goals earlier in the same day when he scored against Manchester United, so Giroud almost found himself at the top with just Kane.
Whilst a largely trivial stat, it shows the importance of Giroud to Milan, and how important it will be to sign an adequate long-term replacement for the Frenchman.
