An interesting study has emerged showing that AC Milan are now they second-most supported club in Serie A in Italy, according to a report.

This morning’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews) has analysed the ups and downs of football fans during the Covid-19 pandemic, citing the inability to watch teams live and the transition to watching on television as being a big factor in changing the statistics regarding support for the big teams.

Juventus are in first with 8.2m fans but with a decrease of 7% compared to 2019-20 after a period of relative struggle, while Milan have grown by 11% thanks to their resurgence under Stefano Pioli and of course the return of Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

StageUp Ipsos – the company that analysed the data – report that the Rossoneri are in second place in Italy with 4,066,000 fans, surpassing Inter at 3,978,000. Then come Napoli with 2,577,000 supporters and Roma with 1,856,000 fans, meaning the likes of Lazio and Atalanta are outside the top five.

  1. It shouldnt really come as a huge surprise as juventus tops it with great margin as they has been dominating the league for the last decade and must have had a great influx of fans when c.ronaldo joined them and who propably will also leave again with him when the time comes.

  2. Juventus are the most supported club in Italy (not Turin though, ironically) while Milan are the most popular Italian club globally.
