GdS: Tare and Milan refusing to give up as contract talks with Origi continue

Divock Origi continues to be a problem for AC Milan on the wage bill, but at least talks are proceeding between the parties over a contract termination. 

It has been three years since Milan signed Origi on a free transfer, giving him a four-year deal worth €4m net. Although the Growth Decree was still a thing back then, making the gross cost €5.24m per year, it’s safe to say that’s a very hefty figure.

With just 36 appearances, 2 goals and 1 assist to his name, it’s easy to see why Milan fans are especially upset about Origi’s salary. Not to mention that the Belgian refused a move for the entire last season, working with a personal trainer in Florence while collecting the paycheck.

Milan haven’t given up

According to today’s edition of Gazzetta dello Sport (via Francesco Nasato), sporting director Igli Tare is in talks with Origi over a contract termination. These talks have been going on for the entire summer and the hope is that a solution can be found.

The striker is believed to be asking for a severance payment, which certainly hurts to read, but it could still be worth it for the Rossoneri. Anything would be better than paying the full €5m, truth be told, especially since we know the player is willing to not play for the entire year to get the money.

Regardless of how the situation will end, it’s clear that Milan made a big mistake by signing him in the first place. He even arrived with an injury and with no transfer fee involved (only commission), there was no need to spread the cost over four years. Three would have been just five.
