GdS: Terracciano tipped to replace suspended Theo – why it is a big opportunity

During the international break one of the things that Paulo Fonseca will have to decide is who will replace Theo Hernandez as the left-back during his two-games suspension in the league.

According to what is being reported this morning by La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews), the Portuguese coach is currently picking between Filippo Terracciano, Alex Jimenez and Davide Bartesaghi, at least while waiting for Davide Calabria to return given he can fill in on the other flank.

At the moment Terracciano should take the place of Theo in Milan’s next two league matches against Udinese at home and Bologna away, although last-minute surprises cannot be ruled out. It must be remembered that he started the away game against Lazio when the Frenchman was not 100%.

If it is to be Terracciano, then it will be an important opportunity for the Italian full-back to show what he can do. The same attacking prowess as Theo is not expected, but a solid defensive performance that is enough to cover Rafael Leao’s runs would tick enough boxes.

Terracciano almost has nothing to lose: if the games against Udinese and Bologna go badly, he would return to the anonymity of the bench but if he were to impress than it could fix an issue in view of the January window.

  1. So basically we’ll be playing with two Emerson Royal. Fonseca just wants to get fired and enjoy a salary while doing nothing.

    1. He can play CB too, but i think mainly he was DM and RB. Not sure why they kept him as a LB back up when that is his weakest position.

      1. @Rossi. Because this is what happens when a team doesn’t have an experienced Sporting Director. They sell players they should have kept and they sign players they don’t need.

Davide Bartesaghi is a better player than Jimenez and Terracciano combined. This is the time to trust our youth players.

Terracciano is horrible and I don’t understand how in the world we signed him over players like Kayode from Fiorentina and Tavares from Lazio who is on loan from Arsenal. Sigh! Smh

      2. he’s a jack of all trades and master of none. He has not done well in any outing sadly.
If he were a DM, i wonder why he hasnt backed up Fofana.
Also, a few years ago, Calabria played DM and he did amazing. Perhaps that’s a better position for him. He could be a version of Gatusso. (not a lot going forward but the no-nonsense defending). Let Reijnders and the AM push forward. Rinho basically did that. He cleaned up and just deferred to Pirlo, Kaka, and Seedorf.

  2. Pavlovic should played left back. And Calabria should have one more chance.

    Tomori and Thiaw central

Abraham bench. Okafor central forward but at least two game in a row to see if he can managed to use opportunity.

Reijnders should be benched too and Loftus in pair with Fofana.

Use other players. Reshuffle things. You will get same result at the end of the season…

  3. If he is Theo’s backup, why didn’t he replace him against Lecce? We need to give the kid minutes if we are counting on him (which apparently we are)

    1. We are not counting him. He wouldn’t see the field if Calabria and Florenzi were not injured. Either one of them would play in the left like they have in the past.

  4. I think is time we switch to a 343 formation with:

    Mike
    Tomori gabbia pavlovic
    Jimenez fofana Tijji Theo
    Puli morata Leo

I think this formation will bring more balance between attack and defense.

we should also start trusting our youth players at least one or two to be Backups when needed and slowly introduced in the first team.
Davide Bartesaghi brings that defensive solidity, Alex Jiminez brings that attacking flair he’s like the right sided Theo.

Is better to gamble on them than trying to improve players who have already reached their peak.
Emerson royal, Calabria, Terracciano are not starting positions material in my opinion.

  5. Terracciano is an awful player. This back 4 of Emerson, Gabbia, Tomori and Terracciano might be the worst we’ve ever had. I’m actually embarrassed for this club.

  6. We should give the boy a chance, but play him in his proper position RB, would love to see back 4 :
    Terraciano, Gabbia, Pavlo, Bartesaghi
