GdS: The probable starting XIs against Dinamo Zagreb and Napoli

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan boss Stefano Pioli already has his two starting line-ups in mind for the upcoming games against Dinamo Zagreb and Napoli.

According to a report from La Gazzetta dello Sport (via SempreMilan), Mike Maignan should be in goal for the game against the Croatian champions, with the usual defensive trio of Pierre Kalulu, Fikayo Tomori and Theo Hernandez joined by Sergino Dest who would make his first start.

Ismael Bennacer and Sandro Tonali are tipped to be in the midfield double pivot, with Alexis Saelemaekers and Rafael Leao on the right and left wing, then Brahim Diaz as playmaker behind Olivier Giroud.

Against Napoli, the back four should change against with Simon Kjaer expected to come in for Pierre Kalulu and Davide Calabria getting his place back from Sergino Dest.

In attack there will be three changes with Junior Messias, Charles De Ketelaere and Divock Origi anticipated to come in for Saelemaekers, Brahim Diaz and the suspended Leao.

  1. I like the Dest choice for Champions League (and in generaly); but must rotate him and Calabria — especially after Samp match where Calabria played one of his strongest matches in a long time. I think the Dest competition is helping motivate Calabria which is great.

Poor Giroud — this is not and has never been his role in his long career at Arsenal/Chelsea/France. He was always a super sub and now he’s starting constantly and getting so many minutes. I’m very worried that he will burn out. Origi needs to get healthy and start at forward so Giroud can get some rest.

  2. Ballo toure must be That bad for pioli who is a very sentimental coach not to give him a start yet.

Vrancxx also looks like a good player, I would prefer to see him play more than pobega.

Dest starting will be brilliant, Calabria will always be my first choice any day, even in his weak days but I would like to see what dest can do

Giroud should only play first half, no matter what the result is, I would prefer to have him against Napoli by all means. We shouldn’t risk him, he is all we got.

Origi should please be back, I will keep supporting him, I know he can give us a major hand in that striking role and I believe he will.

  3. I definitely liked what I saw from Vranckx in first appearance. He worked hard, showed good energy and pace.
His pressing helped us win a throw in on the near sideline shortly after he came in. Once when he got possession in our defensive box, instead of just smashing it out, he made a good long, accurate outlet pass right to Giroud to help us keep possession and burn more time off the clock.
He tried to run down a long ball to get it before it went out for a goal kick and nearly got there to force a deep throw in. Generally pressed/defended well given we were a man down, it was very helpful.

  4. I’m not sure that Origi will be able to play against Napoli. He was shipped to Belgium to consult with the national team’s doctors. He seems to belong more in a hospital bed than in MIlan’s lineup. I feel that this was a bad signing; a rare mistake by Maldini and Massara. He came to us for free but on a huge salary for four years. Seems like he’s very injury-prone and the games he did play for us, he was horrible. Seems like Liverpool dumped the guy on us.

  5. Diaz, my God why didn’t put Adli instead since he is OUR player?

If Diaz can’t play well against Dinamo(due respect to them) he should only play Serie B coppa Italia teams.

  6. That’s want just happened between Milan and Liverpool deal on Origi, Liverpool just dumped him for us.to me he is not the kind of striker that Milan need after winning the league title I thought we could have gone for a better striker far better than Origi.
