GdS: Theo plays 90 minutes for France; Musah impresses in a different role

Theo Hernandez played a full 90 minutes for France last night against Germany, showing that his calf is back to 100% after an injury scare.

La Gazzetta dello Sport write that Didier Deschamps was not going to start Theo in the game between France and Germany in Dortmund (final score 2-1 for the Germans), but he changed his mind and deployed him from the start.

This swept away any residual doubts about the condition of his calf in view of the derby after he suffered a knock on Thursday against Ireland, which was enough to make him miss a couple of training sessions.

His performance was quite subdued as he got criticism from L’Equipe (5) and Le Parisien (5.5). Theo covered well but – apart from a few ideas at the start of the second half – he got forward little compared to his usual standards.

The situation is different for Musah, who will sit on the bench on Saturday afternoon against Inter, but who also confirmed to Pioli the positive signs seen in the friendly against Oman during last night’s 4-0 win for the USA against Uzbekistan.

Musah was again deployed by coach Berhalter – this time for the entire match – in the centre of the three-man midfield, between McKennie and Tillman, where he performed well.

Pioli, in addition to Adli, could really have found an extra option when Krunic is either not able to play or could do with some work load management.
