Theo Hernandez turned 27 yesterday, and his performance against Fiorentina meant that it was a birthday to forget with the armband on.
La Gazzetta dello Sport write that it is quite strange to think that Theo has turned 27. It should be the age of full maturity, the age when – especially after a bad game from the whole team – it would be necessary to avoid adding an unpleasant burden.
To tell the story of the Frenchman’s dark night, it is inevitable to start from the end, which was the straight red card that he was given by Luca Pairetto after some excessive protests. Aggravating circumstance: he was the captain.
The minimum suspension will be two days of suspension, and technically it can increase based on what Pairetto writes on the report (in the next three games, Milan will face Udinese, Bologna and Napoli).
The only ray of light on an otherwise dreadful evening was the assist for Christian Pulisic’s equaliser, but again the Frenchman continued his trend: when he has bad days there is no in between, it is usually a very bad day.
Theo gave away a penalty that appeared soft but it was also an avoidable intervention (he was at the edge of the area, not two steps away from goal). Then he missed a penalty at the other end, taking on a responsibility that should not have been his, as Paulo Fonseca made clear after the game.
Theo took the ball from Morata’s arms (even though Pulisic should have actually shot) and failed to beat Davide De Gea. In the second half, he risked giving away a second penalty with a tackle on Colpani. This time the VAR check acquitted him, but the red mist descended at full-time to end his birthday in the worst way.

27????!!!! Based on how he has behaved this season I though he was turning 20 or 21!!
Theo wanted a gift. Then he insult referee, so he can get red card gift from referee. Very smart theo, you are very active to get gift.
“Theo gave away a penalty”
Not really. The was not foul. The penalty was gifted to Viola. Since when has football been a non-contact sport? If that was a penalty, every match should have 20-25 penalties. And Milan would have gotten at least 3 against Leverkusen.
I was thinking I’d be disappointed if a 17 yo acted the same way on the pitch
Disappointed but somewhat understandable as they’re still literally kids. But at 27? Yeah… Speechless.
For shouting at the referee and taking Pulisic’s penalty because it was his birthday, IMO he needs to be fined by the club.
So much for our captain…if the bough breaks, the cradle will fall.
Maldini is his idol, he completely lost his motivation after the garbage management fired him. It’s not an excuse, he should grow up, but facts are facts.
He should never wear the armband again. Uses it for his own selfish interests over the good of the team. Sit him down.
The real winner in all this PK drama is Pulisic. Theo and Tammy thought they knew better… okay…. If you step up, you better score otherwise you end up looking like an idI0t.
Bet no one gets in the way of Puli now.
Naaah. Pulisic isn’t the winner here. He’d for sure trade all his goals for points for the team as he’s a team player. Unlike some…
As captain Theo gave a PK
missed a PK
earned a red after the whistle (after Fonseca’s yellow. The point had been made by the manager)
Theo’s heart is not in the right place for this team. I like the way he plays when he plays, but his ego and passive/aggressive nature is a cancer on this team.
