GdS: Tonali leads the way for Milan in top speed hit with Theo Hernandez behind

By Oliver Fisher -

When thinking about AC Milan’s fastest players the likes of Theo Hernandez and Rafael Leao spring to mind, but Sandro Tonali probably does not.

As La Gazzetta dello Sport writes, the data from Lega Serie A – which measured the top speed of all the players in in the current season – has produced a surprising podium. The usual suspects such as Gervinho, Cristiano Ronaldo, Luis Muriel, Achraf Hakimi and Hirving Lozano remain outside the top 20 for top speed hit.

Riccardo Saponara leads the way with an impressive top speed of 36.04km/h, followed by Martin Erlic with 35.85 km/h and Lorenzo De Silvestri at 35.31km. In fourth place, surprisingly, is Sandro Tonali who peaked at 35.26km/h against Fiorentina in Round 28.

Obviously in a 100m sprint against the likes of Gervinho, Muriel, Cristiano and company Tonali should come up short, but in this particular stat the Italy international emerges victorious, even over his quickest Milan team-mates.

Tonali covers on average 8.755km per game, data taken over 25 games and 1,421 minutes played – a good average considering that he has started 17 of them. The leader remains Brozovic with 11.983km per game over 30 games, while the top Milan player is Franck Kessie, ninth in the list at 11.303km covered in 3,047 minutes played.

Meanwhile, in the top 20 of the Serie A sprinters, Theo Hernandez is the only one present twice: firstly in 19th place with 34.75km/h hit against Spezia in Round 3, then in ninth with 35.09km/h at home against Crotone.
