GdS: What Fonseca is looking for in Milan’s final USA friendly vs. Barcelona

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan will close out their 2024 Soccer Champions Tour campaign tonight when they face off against Barcelona in Baltimore, and Paulo Fonseca is looking for further positive indications.

Milan began their USA trip with a 3-2 victory against Manchester City at the Yankee Stadium and the victory against the Premier League champions was then followed by another against the champions of Europe, Real Madrid.

Now it is Barcelona who await in Maryland, and you can read our preview for all the information about the game. The team will fly back to Italy afterwards to begin preparations at Milanello for the Silvio Berlusconi trophy and the Serie A opener on August 17th.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below), Milan arrived in Baltimore after a ‘strange’ journey, one that saw them go by bus and train from their New Jersey hub rather than flying. The challenge is to make it three wins out of three and finish on the right note.

The paper adds that Fonseca ‘will continue with his test’ and ‘will want to see aggression, rapid recovery [of the ball] and possession management’.

In terms of players, the first minutes of the preseason could arrive for Rafael Leao and Noah Okafor, who missed the Real Madrid game to stay back and train.
