GdS: ‘Ongoing reflections’ – why the fates of Okafor and Abraham could cross

By Oliver Fisher -

The AC Milan management are pondering how to fine-tune the attack ahead of next season while looking for the next starting striker, and there could be some movements concerning Noah Okafor.

This morning’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below) talks about the confusion that surrounds Milan’s pursuit of a new striker, amid the complications that have arisen in getting the Joshua Zirkzee deal done and the alternatives being evaluated.

However, they also talk about the potential back-up to the new No.9 and more specifically about Tammy Abraham. His name has popped up in recent days, offered to the Rossoneri by Roma who are trying to sell to buy.

Although Milan’s response was initially ‘lukewarm’, the management are now pondering the idea of the Englishman being a deputy in the striker role, and that could well spell bad news for Noah Okafor who last season was given minutes mostly as a centre-forward rather than as a winger.

Indeed, Abraham’s fate and potential arrival could intersect with that of Okafor. La Gazzetta speaks of ‘ongoing reflections’ at Casa Milan regarding the future of the Swiss player, who has not had a single minute so far at the European Championship under Yakin.

  1. Selling Okafor after just one season under Pioli would be stupid. At least let the preseason start and let Fonseca assess the boy before you throw him away because Pioli didn’t know how to properly utilize him.

  2. What nonsense. Okafor was an inexpensive signing that scored 6 goals last season. He’s a good back-up. Abraham won’t be considered for the starting striker position.

    1. So 25 mil for back up?
No. if Milan ever bought him, it is for the main man up front There’s no way Redt*rd would buy a 25 mil backups.

        1. If I remember correctly many thaught that Chukwueze would become our main right winger and that Pulisic would be the sub. Pulisic came earlier, was superb and Chukwueze failed.
For the live of me, I still don’t undestand how they thaught getting Musah was a good idea.

  3. This is now assuming that Tammy will not be the only CF coming in. If not then Okafor has 2 roles to play. Deputise for Leao and help out as CF. With Tammy and Jovic there is room for Okafor to assist in attack from a rotational perspective. Okafor gives us more options with both Jovic and Tammy not necessarily giving you 20 plus goals a season. It will be outright stupid to ship Okafor out…give him a fair chance before that thought cross our minds.

  4. Dio mio – I hope not. Abraham really! Okafor will shine next season for Rossoneri and the former can stay at Roma and move anywhere other than AC Milan.

  5. I’m not as low on Abraham as most here. I think he’s a decent striker. Sort of like an Osimhen-lite. There are a few similarities. If he can stay healthy and have a good supporting cast, which in Leao, Pulisic, RLC and co., he will find, and an offensive minded coach like Fonseca (instead of Mourinho), then he can easily score 15 goals (he’s already managed 17 in Serie A and 15 in the PL), maybe even reach 20. We could do much worse at his price point of 30M.

  6. Oh yeah, and he knows the league (clearly) and has been in Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and Conference League winning sides, so he’s got a fair amount of experience.
