AC Milan were heavily linked with a move for Mehdi Taremi at the end of this past summer. However, the deal broke down in the final days and the Rossoneri ended up signing Luka Jovic instead.

The Taremi negotiation was certainly the saga of the mercato, with Milan working on the operation for several weeks. As reported by Gazzetta dello Sport, though, there are various reasons why the deal didn’t go through.
Milan first evaluated signing Taremi in July but they decided to go with Samuel Chukwuexe instead as their last non-EU signing. It made sense, having already brought in Noah Okafor for the attack, and the Taremi idea thus put in the drawer.
However, when Ruben Loftus-Cheek was named an EU player (Serie A changed the rules on Englishmen), Milan returned to Taremi. In the second half of August, the negotiation was intense and an agreement was eventually reached at €15m plus bonuses.
The Rossoneri also had an agreement with Taremi for a three-year deal worth €1.5m per season. Then, when the deal was about to close, Porto asked to include an agent in the negotiation and Taremi also increased his demands.
Milan could try again in January, locking him down on a free transfer for the end of the season.
