GdS: Why Milan are the main candidates to challenge Inter for the Scudetto

By Isak Möller -

AC Milan are gearing up for yet another season of Serie A action and while many of their rivals have strengthened, they remain the favourites to challenge Inter. At least if you ask Gazzetta dello Sport and not the bookmakers.

As far as the Scudetto goes, all eyes will be on Inter as they are the big favourites to lift the trophy. Last season was indeed a bit too easy for the Nerazzurri and the hope is that at least one team can challenge them this time out, with Milan in pole position.

Today’s edition of Gazzetta dello Sport states (see photo below) that Milan are only worthy Scudetto candidates aside from Inter. They managed to keep hold of their stars and reinforced the squad where it was needed, even if the fans have a wait a bit for this.

Compared to previous summers, when at least one star left (Donnarumma, Kessie and Tonali), the Rossoneri said no and only improved their foundation. Emerson Royal, Strahinja Pavlovic, Youssouf Fofana and Alvaro Morata have all raised the quality of the squad.

In addition to the signings, Samuel Chukwueze is also blossoming and Rafael Leao is looking to be even more consistent on the left flank. The derby in the fifth round will be the biggest indicator of where Milan and Inter stand, but the feeling is that the gap isn’t huge anymore.

  1. Does anyone know what the merda fans are saying and thinking about theirs and ours season?

I’ve been spying a little on some Juve forums, and they are generally speaking in despair.

    I have a very good feeling😀
    Forza Milan ❤️🖤

      1. They are in despair, panic, sadness and almost hatred for some of their own players. Very dissatisfied with Giuntoli and their Mercato.

For me it is very pleasing to read as I hate gobbi di Merda 😅😂🤣

        1. Ummmmm….We revamped our team last season with 11 new players…..

And ummmmm…..most Juve fans are excited about the new team (aside from losing Soule)

Guintoli rebuilt and upgraded Juves midfield with Thurman Luiz and now Koopmeiners (although they overpaid for him) – added the best young keeper in the league in DeGregorio); signing Nico Gonzalez and will likely add another winger and will likely take Kalulu or add another CB……..They are doing just fine – so not sure where you are getting this from mate.

Unfortunately everyone around me are Juve fans and all are excited – they knew they needed to revamp the squad and hey have slowly done that – they are just a bit nervous and unsure if Motta can put it all together.

          1. They hate on Chiesa, don’t want Kalulu, have lost faith in Vlahovic and are luke warm about Gonzales and coach Motta.
Exited about Thurman and Luiz, yes.
I am just referring to what I read, this is not my personal opinion. Just saying.

Maybe your friends are overly optimistic, maybe people at forum I was looking at overly pessimistic.

  2. No stars left? I guess that’s true if you don’t consider their leading scorer Giroud as one of the main players on the team. Which of course only an idiot would. I mean do you even think before you write this drivel?

    1. I guess they mean no star was sold by our management. Giroud only left of his own will, once his contract expired. He fulfilled his contract up to the last day, and if he wanted to stay, management would have offered him another year. Morata is a suitable replacement. We’ll see if Morata will perform as well as Giroud, but in principle I don’t believe that the team has been weakened by replacing Giroud with Morata.

      1. Yes, Giroud wasn’t sold, but Dollaruma or Kessie weren’t either. Milan hasn’t been FORCED to sell since the last years of Silvio. And I think that Morata can be able to fill the hole up front, but didn’t Maignan do that in goal? Sure the degenerate gambler was thankfully sold, but those funds were used to great effect. The way this article was written implied that Milan has been selling off its stars without replacing them for years and this year nobody important left at all. That is just blatantly false, lazy reporting.

  3. Giroud is already 37, and he was already anticipated to left for a long time. And he was supposed to be the back up striker… And his performance in second half of last season already dropped noticeably.

The stars in question is, more obvious ones like Maignan, Theo, and Leao, and to lesser extent, Tomori, Pulisic, Reijnders.

At least chill and don’t take offense for every single thing.

    1. I think Pulisic did enough last season to be put in the same category as Leao, Theo and Maignan and certainly did way more than either Reijnders and Tomori.

  4. The US tour where we managed to win every one of our games against the likes of Manchester City, Real Madrid and FC Barcelona (compared especially to our rivals who didn’t get good results even against lower teams), plus this mercato where we got players who were our primary targets for each position certainly did help building a good atmosphere and a sense of confidence.
Not gonna lie though, I’m not a big fan of all this “hype” in general. I’d rather wait and see how the team performs in actual important games before giving my judgement to the coach and players.
Good summer so far, but it’s just friendlies.

  5. I’m very optimistic about our scudetto chances. I am concerned about having too many offensive minded players on the pitch but I’m hopeful. Forza Milan!!🔴⚫️
