GdS: Probable XIs for Milan vs. Verona – five changes from Newcastle draw

By Isak Möller -

AC Milan will take on Hellas Verona tomorrow afternoon and Stefano Pioli is set to make a total of five changes to the starting XI. Given the tight schedule, this was always expected.

The draw against Newcastle was certainly disappointing but, on the other hand, Milan looked much better compared to the derby. Therefore, they just need to apply the final touch tomorrow against Verona.

According to Gazzetta Dello Sport (see photo below), Pioli is expected to make five changes to the XI. Marco Sportiello will replace Mike Maignan in goal as the Frenchman is suffering from minor discomfort, while Alessandro Florenzi will replace Theo Hernandez on the left.

In midfield, Rade Krunic looks set to keep his deep-lying role after all (even though he could use some rest, teaming up with Yunus Musah and Tijjani Reijnders. The former did really well off the bench against Newcastle and will be looking to shine again.

Finally, Christian Pulisic will get his spot back on the right after Samuel Chukwueze started last time out. Olivier Giroud may be tired, just like Krunic, but he’s still expected to start and the same goes for Rafael Leao.

Probable Milan XI (4-3-3): Sportiello; Calabria, Thiaw, Tomori, Florenzi; Musah, Krunic, Reijnders; Pulisic, Giroud, Leao.

  1. Okafor for Leao and Jovic for Giroud please!
Giroud can’t start all the games, its just impossible.
Leao is just a time wasting winger, like a little child. I’m sometimes sick of watching him play.

  2. Following players will not get no matches:
Adli: Despite Pioli saying he is Krunic deputy, he will not play
Bartezaghi: Pioli said the kid was brought up to fill in for Theo. If he put in Florenzi instead that says it all.
Romero: I do not know what the kid was thinking when he chose to play for Milan with Pioli at the helm. He will be gone by the January transfer window

  3. Pioli do same mistake. First in tactics with inter and now with resting players.

Pulisic should play on left and Chuku on right. Leao should be benched like Giroud, whose spot should be taken by Okafor.

In second half he can change Krunic and bring Theo Leao Giroud if we can’t score.

Playing on 2 fronts means each players must have rest.

    1. Tactics here too apparently. 3-4-3? What next? 2-3-5? maybe we can go back to a sweeper formation? 1-3-3-3. Pioli is out of ideas. I wonder where the bookies have his odds of getting the sack at the moment.

  4. Giroud has a paramount role in the system. He has to be physically dominant against (usually) big defenders, he has to sprint on a regular basis to open lanes or to pressure the goalkeeper and the defenders in their build-up. He’s a beast, especially at his age.

Okafor can’t do his job and he can’t play CF unless we change the system. He’s obviously a substitute for Leao. Jovic was a desperate move late in the mercato to bring depth in case of emergency, he’s still not in condition to start right now and he’s a risky player.

  5. We are on the Direction of Failing more than last season, but at this time is unjustifyable by letting Pioli burning the Project infront of their owners
Last four years krunic was on the bench and he costs only 8m,so how its possible to be included starting 11 Instead of Musah while we want to go to win the Scudetto and UCL.
Look Pioli Chooses Calabria whos has no market price and not included national team over Kalalu who has 40m/50m Market Price,
He is lining up the Scrap one(Florenzi) who is not worth even a penny over young Promising and talnented Bartesaghi,
Look Giorud he is almost 37 yrs injured,un skillfull and untalented plus he is overworked and than pioli wants to line up over Jovetic
He is also made less confidece ones both Okafur and Chekuenze.
If the Managebt imiditately sack Pioli they will reach where nothing can be won this season as well as less market players in the squard.

    1. Difficult to understand your writing, but I think you’re saying we can’t let Pioli go now? I completely disagree. If we’re struggling at the October international break it would be a good time to pull the trigger. Still early enough to right the ship.

  6. I think Milan need to try a double pivot again with Musah & Reijnder, plus Pulisic as CAM. And keep Chukwueze – Leao plus Jovic as target man. Thats Will be a scary formation to beat Verona 😁
