GdS: ‘All-in on a 9’ – Bologna, Leipzig, Lille and Feyenoord stars eyed by Milan

By Oliver Fisher -

Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Giorgio Furlani and Geoffrey Moncada are working on various fronts as AC Milan look to sign a new centre-forward, but the new head coach will be a factor.

As La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below) report this morning, the decision has been made to move on from Stefano Pioli at the end of the season. The name of the next coach will also influence the choices for the summer mercato, for obvious reasons.

However, some certainties can already be put in writing. The main one: a new striker will be the big signing of the summer. Olivier Giroud will soon be a Los Angeles FC player and Milan will invest heavily in his replacement.

The options

Joshua Zirkzee has earned pole position in recent weeks but the situation is evolving. Zirkzee can be bought out by Bayern for €40m but it is likely that that operation will not take place and Bologna will manage the negotiation.

Zirkzee has remaining in Italy as his priority but the Premier League remains a big threat. Many teams are interested: Manchester United, Arsenal and more. They all have a purchasing power unknown to Milan.

Thus, it is right to evaluate the alternative options. Benjamin Sesko is a complete striker, he has physique and technique, he is 20 years of age and has a lot of potential, however that means he will not leave for less than €50m and RB Leipzig will put up resistance.

Jonathan David will only have a year left on his deal with Lille come July and he would thus cost less than the others. In addition to that, he works under Paulo Fonseca, one of the coaches that Milan is considering.

The fourth official is Santiago Gimenez, who is scoring a lot of goals in the Netherlands. Feyenoord is asking for €60m for him and have well-founded hopes of receiving it, sooner or later.

  1. Everything went so wrong because of lack of experience and indecisiveness from the board. Back in March, it was clear that Motta is available and hasn’t renewed his contract.
BUT, FURLANI was holding everyone on to Pioli hoping that ‘it would work out’ when were beating bottom level teams back-to-back. Conte scared sh*t out of them because he is not gonna be their dog.

And now Motta is gone, Pioli blundered as always and there are no decent coaches available aaaaand summer transfers are unclear because a lot depends on who will be the coach hahaha

Abate seems only worth candidate among these clown options.

Hopefully next coach will be someone who doesn’t guarantee a starting spot for anyone including Leao. Whoever is fittest should start no matter who he is.

This board without any dignity should be replaced first but Cardinale himself is a wrong person to run the club…

At this point I lost my trust on these people who are running the club.

      1. Yeah we are the ‘problem’. We should not criticise right? We should only cheer.

Inter ra*Ed us in debt, no problem, all good Hooray.

We are out of UCL from group stage, Hooray.

Atalanta, Juve, Roma outplayed us, no problem, amazing job, hooray.

Everything is perfect, Pioli is God, Cardinale is the father of Florentino Perez.

We are the best club in the world by large margin. Hooray.

        Glory to AC Milan

        1. Not what I said. I said you guys put all the blame on Pioli. We win, it’s because of the players only. We lose, it’s because of the coach. Regardless of who the coach is, you all complain and cry

  2. Ya I will believe it when I see any one of these players actually in our jersey. I hope I’m dead wrong but I have a hard time believing Redbird will spend 50-60M on ANY PLAYER regardless of the position. We absolutely should – but that doesn’t sync with Redbird’s moneyball approach. At best I think we get a player like David who should only cost 30M max…. 50-60M which is what players like Zirkzee, Sesko, etc…will cost is not what Redbird is all about. We shall see.

  3. I am already sick of milan’s approach to the transfer market. We want every attacker in europe but cannot seem to decide whom we want …. and months pass by. The same thing will happen with the new coach ….. there are ten apparently already on the list ….. why not get another ten to confuse tifosi even more!!!!!
