AC Milan Primavera headed into today’s clash against Genoa with a bruised confidence after the disappointing 3-3 draw against Sassuolo. Unfortunately, they failed to bounce back with a win, instead losing the clash 2-1.
Last weekend’s 3-3 draw against Sassuolo was indeed a huge blow for Milan, having the lead 3-0 at half-time. A good response was thus needed this morning and Ignazio Abate was able to field a decent XI, though the likes of Hugo Cuenca, Alex Jimenez and Jan-Carlo Simic were not available.
Milan had some good chances to take the lead in the first half but failed to find the back of the net, just like the home side who had the best chance with a shot that hit the crossbar. In the second half, however, things opened up much more.
Genoa managed to take the lead after one of their strikers was brought down in the box by Milan goalkeeper Noah Raveyre. An unnecessary challenge, given that the striker was heading for a rather poor angle. Genoa made no mistakes from the spot and thus got the first goal.
In the 77th minute, Milan got their equaliser through Vittorio Magni who got on the end of a cross at the back post. There and then, the Rossoneri were hoping to bag another one and claim all three points, but instead Genoa restored the lead four minutes later after a quick attack.
The defence remains the biggest issue for Abate and his men, obviously affected by the fact that Simic is now with the first team on a permanent basis. And the league title is now slipping away, with the city rivals Inter eight points ahead and a game in hand.
