Genoa should have been reduced to ten men in the second half of last night’s game against AC Milan after a foul from Morten Thorsby.
Milan clinched all three points after a two-minute turnaround against Genoa, getting a little help from the substitutes. Vitinha opened the scoring for the home side, then Rafael Leao equalised and forced an own-goal to complete a rapid comeback.
Today’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews) analyses the key incidents of the game which was refereed by Giuseppe Collu, and there is one moment in particular that stands out.
Thorsby should have got a second yellow card after he – already on a yellow card – committed a cynical foul on Joao Felix midway through the second half. The referee should have given him a second booking and therefore sent him off.
The Rossoneri asked for a penalty in the 55th minute for contact in the area between Norton-Cuffy and Leao, but it was the Rossoneri forward who threw himself to the ground in an exaggerated way, as per the officials.
There were appeals for a possible penalty in Genoa’s favour in the 65th minute, but it was Vitinha who hooked Pavlovic in the area and not the other way around. Gimenez’s position was well onside meanwhile for Leao’s goal to make it 1-1.
Thorsby expected the worst and was extremely lucky
there were plenty of Genoa players making challenges that were a heavy challenges. They should have either been warned severely so they know that a cars is going to be brandished if they continue or just show the card to some of them, because it seemed like it was a given that the ref was taking it easy in this game. Thorsby should have gotten another card and the coach immediately took him off knowing this guy was becoming a liability.
Thorsby shouldve been sent off Twice in 1 game tbh… other then him there where other players like Frendrup and De Winter who where for sure on edge for a yellow or maybe even red card. But if you get a sh*tty little refferee from Serie B for Ac Milan games thats what you have to expect i guess…. we got 5 yellows with 12 fouls while Genoa got 1 with 15 fouls….
All true.
Happy for the victory!!!
But we still play sluggish football, this is not Milan !!
Il Mister tries to change systems, to solve problems, but in vain.
Let’s hope for 9 more points and for Coppa Italia !!!
I’m a dreamer huh?!!
