Gent director seemingly confirms Milan’s offer for striker but declares: “We hope for more”

By Oliver Fisher -

The sporting director of Belgian side Gent has seemingly confirmed Milan’s interest in striker Roman Yaremchuk, but is not happy with the amount offered.

Alessandro Jacobone was the first to report of confirmed contacts between technical director Paolo Maldini and Gent for Yaremchuk. The player is “endorsed” by Shevchenko and could arrive on loan with option to buy at €15-16m, while Sportwereld and Nieuwsblad in Belgium (via FootballItalia) both backed up those claims.

On Saturday evening, Ukraine will play against England in the quarter-finals of the European Championships and there will be lots of teams watching Yaremchuk, with Gent director Michel Louwagie awaiting some phone calls.

Louwagie was asked about the future of the striker and in particular about rumours that the Rossoneri have made an offer worth €15m to sign him, which he seemed to confirm.

“Even in Covid times we hope for more”, Louwagie told RTBF (via VoetbalKrant).

“Everything will depend on the market this summer. And on the country where Yaremchuk will go.”

The Ukraine international scored 20 goals and added 7 assists for the Belgian club in 34 league appearances last season and also has 10 goals in 26 senior caps for his country.
