Gianluigi Donnarumma makes 20-man Golden Boy shortlist

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma has officially made the 20-man shortlist for the 2019 Golden Boy award.

The award is handed out to the player – who must be under 21 – that is most likely to make the biggest impression in the coming season, as voted for by a large panel.

Matthijs de Ligt was the 2018 winner and they proved to get it spot on, as the Netherlands international led Ajax to a Champions League semi-final before earning a big-money move to Juventus.

As per Football Italia, the favourite for this year is Atletico Madrid and Portugal playmaker Joao Felix, who had an amazing breakthrough season at Benfica in 2018-19.

However Milan’s Donnarumma is in with a shot, with Roma midfielder Nicolo Zaniolo the only other representative from Serie A.

The winner is announced in Turin in December.
