QS: Gimenez ‘at risk’ for Udinese clash as Allegri considers new duo

Throughout the past few months, the words ‘at risk’ have often applied to Santiago Gimenez. Now, they are once again true for the AC Milan striker.

In the mercato, Gimenez was one of the biggest maybes that Milan had. Until the final hours of the mercato, he was between the staying and going camps. Of course, he now remains a Rossonero, but he has yet to convince.

Massimiliano Allegri continues to be left impressed by the Mexican. However, he has not scored yet, even if the effort is there. It is a case of confidence, and the Italian may look to another solution this weekend.

Three for two

That solution, as Quotidiano Sportivo writes this morning, could be dropping him. As MilanNews relays, the striker is ‘at risk’ for the game, with Christian Pulisic and Christopher Nkunku both ready for the game.

Nkunku’s impact from the bench was noticeable, but whether he is ready for 60 or even 90 minutes remains to be seen.

It could well be a case of him coming from the bench once again, with Pulisic perhaps supporting his North American teammate. Perhaps, Allegri will take a risk. Either way, time could be running out for Gimenez as a starter. An impact, therefore, is needed.

  1. Twin strikers is essentially Milan DNA.
Use the 3 of them and form up a fearsome pair. Leao can be sold in Jan to highest bidder as he is not cup tied

    1. I would say the same last season but Allegri heard my prayers and plays Leao as striker. I always said that he should play as striker because he cant run back and defend as winger .

In Allegris counter tactics him as striker was already deadly in the friendlies, too bad he got that injury,we would have crushed Cremonese with him easy.

Just have some faith in Leao, i belive without injuries him and Nkunku could form a deadly counter striker duo, cant wait for them to be in the starting line up soon.

      I

      1. In the first one the ball seems already out when he hit it and in the second one he somewho missed it after dribbling the goalkeeper with no defender in sight and in both cases, he hit the OUTSIDE part of the post.
So let’s not pretend that last game was anything good from him.

    1. Yeah….. he had better started…. and repay our faith in him… cos I’ve still not forgotten how he sent jashari to 3 months on the sidelines…..😒😒😒

  2. Santi’s not in good form. He is “thinking too much” when receiving the ball and not acting instinctively. For now he should come off the bench with a Milan lead and hopefully contribute with goal and/or assist until he gets his confidence back. Against Napoli we need players at 100% confidence – we cannot afford any missed opportunities due to overthinking.

  3. Concidering Leao is injured and Nkunku unfit, it would be smartest to start Pulisic and Gimenez then give Nkunku 30 min in the second half, and let him start in the cup against Lecce.

Gimenez runs ALOT and helps alot in the defending and pressing. Thats needed away against Udine.

If he can get a goal or two before Leao is back and he’ll be benched, it would do wonders for his self confidence. That would be good for everyone.

  4. Allegri has suggested he is going with the same lineup as in the last game. Pulisic is going to be packing his bag either in January or after the WC. If ACM is smart, they sell him in January and use the money to get an Allegri type player.
