Santiago Gimenez was destined to leave AC Milan this summer. However, it now seems difficult to imagine that happening.
It has seemed pretty clear that Gimenez’s chapter at Milan was over this summer. Indeed, the Mexican was going to leave the club, which is why the investment into Goncalo Ramos was so affordable.

Well, not affordable, but feasible, shall we say.
Nevertheless, the Rossoneri now have to rethink things after he sprained his ankle against England in the World Cup. Now, it must be said it initially looked much worse, but thankfully, it is only a sprain.
Gimenez injury causes rethink
According to Calciomercato.com, if the injury is ‘serious’ – given there have been no recovery timelines given yet – it could well affect the plans for this summer. Indeed, it would have repercussions for his and the club’s future.
The Rossoneri were sold on selling him this summer and that may not be as possible anymore, with another ankle injury on the same ankle as before. Indeed, it could spark worries in medicals when leaving.
So, this needs to be considered.
Of course, we could only be looking at a few weeks on the sidelines, so until an assessment and timeline is laid out, the Diavolo will be in the dark. It is a vital period, then.
If we were ever counting on selling Gimemez then that was terrible planning. He was never going to fetch the amount we’d need to avoid a loss so at ‘best’ he was going to move on a low paid loan. Suggesting someone was going to pay 20M after his last season was nonsense.
A loan to a club a league where he’d be in a strong team (Belgium, Netherlands, Portugal, maybe France or Germany) is IMO the best outcome here, get him back into a headspace where he can score and doesn’t feel like a burden, potentially work on reclaiming some value.
We should look at this from an other angle and from the other side of the issue in question which has already existed before this injury and which is even more so pressing since because the problem (has) amplified. As things stand, we are practically forced to sign someone on a 6 or (more likely) 12 months loan (preferably without the obligation to buy) now and hope our choice is not a wrong one. Camarda simply can’t be a backup striker (yet) and neither can Nkunku for that matter.
Meaning this can not and must not result in their upgrade/upgrading in the pecking order from a
third or a fourth choice to a second one which is
a very important since Ramos needs a legitimate competitor regardless of the 74 million euros fee.
If Camards can’t be a backup striker at 18 years old, then he is not good enough for Milan.
We need to have the courage to bet on these guys, if we actually believe in their talents. Otherwise, move them on loan or sell.
Unfortunately, I seriously doubt it considering his previous senior experience and his stint at Lecce but I would be the happiest man if he proves me wrong in the end. We should take someone on a loan and give Ramos a rather decent alternative.

If they sell him again they need to buy back up. For first part of season Gimenez can be given more time to stand up.
With Allegri he was good in pressing and giving a lot on games.
So they can focus on other sales and positions.

Ramos won’t be playing all the games and God forbid gets injured. There’s no reliable backup. Santi is a tragic backup option so far. There was only one stellar Jimenez playing for Mexico at the WC and that’s Raul …

Quiñones was the best mexican player for Mexico, because he created the options for Raúl. Quiñones scored 4 goals had 1 assistance, Raúl 3 goals, 1 assistance.

He holds up great, creates his own chances, links up fine, is the right amount of selfish in front of goal… oh, and seems to have no issues scoring.
OMG! Gimenez is possibly the worst striker in Serie A. Zero goals and terrible play. Zero goals!!! The absolute worst Milan player for the past season. I’d let him go for free.
