Matteo Moretto has confirmed Lazio’s interest in Santiago Gimenez, but it remains a difficult mission to pull off.

Gimenez has not had the best past 12 months or so. After going without a league goal in an injury-hit 2025-26 season, the striker had a World Cup to forget too as his goal drought continued and he picked up another ankle issue.

Just as there were in the winter window and even last summer, there are stories about a possible exit for the Mexican. He arrived for around €30m from Feyenoord and it was hoped he could be the centre-forward of the future, but his struggles saw Milan invest over €70m on Goncalo Ramos.

In recent days, Gennaro Gattuso’s Lazio have emerged as a potential landing spot for Gimenez. On Fabrizio Romano’s YouTube channel, transfer expert Matteo Morteto discussed their interest, with his words via MilanNews.

“Lazio is looking for a physically strong striker who can provide some depth in the penalty area, and the two strong names are AC Milan’s Santiago Gimenez and Levante’s Carlos Espi,” he said.

“Of the two, Carlos Espi is the more convincing, in that he’s the striker Lazio’s sporting team likes best due to his characteristics. However, it must be said that these are two complicated deals in terms of costs.”

  1. Cardinale: Gimenez would be perfect for Lazio. Scored zero goals last season
    Gattuso: Mhmm
Cardinale: And during training he put one of our players out for half the season
    Gattuso: Mhmm
Cardinale: Oh and he was injured all season too. Came back for the World Cup and now he’s injured again
    Gattuso: I’ll take him

    1. He was injured (for) the whole season (he returned in March after being sidelined for five months) but they say he had promised his country and the fans to be the top scorer in the World cup, imagine that.

    2. He’s given more interviews than scored goals for Milan – he’ll fit right in there, along with the falconer.

  2. Just give lazio loan with option to buy. They wont use that option anyway. Gattuso actually helping ACM if lazio loan gimenez
