Santiago Gimenez’s father Christian Gimenez is calm about his son’s future and the upcoming home World Cup for Mexico.
It has not been a positive campaign for Gimenez, his first full one at Milan since arriving from Feyenoord last January in a deal worth around €30m. He is yet to score a league goal and has spent a long time out after ankle surgery to correct a long-running issue.

Having been given more opportunities in recent weeks, the Mexican is still yet to break his duck. This has led to speculation that he could well be sold in the summer window, especially if Massimiliano Allegri stays and a new number nine arrives.
In an exclusive interview with Cl aro Sports on W Radio (via MilanVibes), Christian Gimenez spoke about the current situation of his son Santiago. He assured everyone that the Mexican striker is going through a positive moment both physically and mentally, after overcoming his physical problems.
How is Santi doing?
“He looks very good physically. The injury hasn’t bothered him in the slightest. He’s gone from strength to strength, accumulating minutes and has already started two games.”
Milan are struggling a bit…
“The team is going through a period that perhaps isn’t the best, but it continues to fight for important positions and this also helps.”
How are you and your son different
“We are very different. If I got injured, I wanted to be back on the pitch the next day. He is much more patient and understands the time it takes.”
How does Santi face difficult moments?
“Many times, those of us close to him hear things or see them on social media, but for him, absolutely nothing changes. He’s very cautious, and that gives us peace of mind too.”
The World Cup is approaching…
“Being part of the national team is the best thing that can happen to you. First, his season ended, and now we’re all waiting for that call-up with great trepidation. He takes everything very calmly. From a distance, he may not feel many things, and that helps him a lot.”
