It has been a long time coming, but some excellent news arrived from Milanello on Tuesday regarding Santiago Gimenez.
According to MilanNews, Gimenez returned to training with the rest of the squad today. He was welcomed by the rest of his team-mates, who celebrated having him back on the field with them after several months.
The end of the tunnel
The Mexican, as Massimiliano Allegri announced in recent days, has completed his recovery and re-training and is now ready to work with the team again.
This was the first post-derby training session: those who played on Sunday spent less time on the pitch than the others, who spent the entire session outside. Gimenez was included in this, and we presume his work rate will be gradually increased.
Gimenez’s last appearance was on 28 October 2025, the night of Atalanta 1-1 Milan, when he was substituted due to a knock to his ankle. He then underwent conservative treatment and subsequent surgery to permanently resolve the problem he had been struggling with for several months.
In the next few days, perhaps either on Thursday or Friday, it will be clear whether he will be available for Sunday night’s match against Lazio. It will kick start a crucial couple of months in which the former Feyenoord man will play to convince the management he deserves to stay.

Welcome back🎵🎵🎵
Redemption arc begins
I hope after his recovery he will not run like my grandma anymore…
I think this could be a bigger deal than people think. I don’t know what Allegri will do, but this team has looked best this season with Gimenez in the lineup. His pressing and movement were quite good, even if he was not scoring goals. Puli scored a lot of goals in part because of Gimenez working hard. I don’t know who does not get to play and who has to sit. Maybe we finally try a 3-4-2-1? I want to see forwards running hard and getting subbed at 60.
I don’t know that anyone is expecting anything out of Santi at this point.
Santi ❤️🖤
Well come back Santi we miss you I’m happy no more rubbish fulkrug
