Santiago Gimenez has hit back at speculation suggesting he could leave AC Milan, insisting he does not want to ‘waste the opportunity’.
Gimenez is preparing to play the last match of his season, the 2025 Gold Cup final with the Mexican national team against their bitter rivals, the United States. The match will be played tonight at 01:00 CEST (the early hours of the morning) and will crown the champion of Central and North America.

He was the big signing of the winter mercato as the Rossoneri paid €32m plus €3m in bonuses to snatch him from Feyenoord. Despite scoring six goals and adding three assists in a pretty dysfunctional side, there have been rumours that he could actually leave.
‘The idea is that I stay’
The reason for this is that Igli Tare has already announced Milan’s plan to invest in another striker. Nevertheless, Gimenez had his chance to respond to the talk of potentially departing in a pre-match press conference.
“I feel at home in Milan, I’m living a dream, I thank God for giving me the chance to be in such a big team as Milan,” he said (via MilanNews).
“I think there were a lot of rumours that I could leave, but I’m very happy there. I spoke with the management, with the coaching staff, and the idea is that I stay. I will try to show my best version, because I don’t want to waste an opportunity like this.”
I trust him to be our 20+ striker. Get Luuk de Jong as backup (exactly the profile we’re looking for and free) and we’re absolutely fine there.
Santi was never for sale. Just some articles that make no sense. With this midfield, Bebote will start scoring like he used to.

I don’t think anyone believed the articles, Santi is a good striker but needs proper midfielders to support him. This season he will score 20+ goals
He looks determined and motivated. Besides, considering he came in the middle of a shi*ty season, his stats are not even that bad. I’d bet on him to be our starter.
Yeah he and his country just win gold cup in final beat USA. He will be motivated. I dont know why this management still looking for striker like dusan vlaho or mitrovic that are not better than Santi
Bebote is a predator in the area, at least that he was in Holland.
But Seria A is different.
He needs support from the midfield and we have no more players like Pirlo, Seedorf or Kaka
Instead we have Jorge Mendes’s flops and positive financial ballance.
