Santiago Gimenez can finally see the light at the end of a very long tunnel, and he will play for his AC Milan future when he returns.
Having undergone surgery on his right ankle on December 18th after a month of conservative therapy with no results, Gimenez is determined to use the final two months of the season to achieve some things.

As Calciomercato.com report, he wants to carve out a valuable role for himself at Milan – also with an eye to his future – to regain top form, and to secure a spot in the Mexican national team’s squad for the World Cup on home soil, kicking off in mid-June.
Massimiliano Allegri consistently used him as a central attacking focal point in the early part of the season, alternating him with Christian Pulisic and Rafael Leao, believes Gimenez ‘could be an alternative to Niclas Füllkrug’.

Gimenez though is less of a target man than the German, and rather is a striker more accustomed to roaming the pitch to create space for team-mates and midfielders, as well as attacking the space left in behind opposing defences.
The two-month period between March and May will be crucial in trying to gain popularity among both Allegri and the Milan management. The club didn’t treat the ex-Feyenoord man as unsellable, even negotiating a swap with Roma, while Sunderland and West Ham have enquired again.
Acquired in January 2025 for €35m including the fixed amount and bonuses, Gimenez signed a contract until June 2029 and earns a net salary of €2.5m net per season. The player and his entourage, led by agent Rafaela Pimenta, have repeatedly reiterated their desire to stay and fight for a spot.
The feeling emerging from Milan is that the coming months, and also Gimenez’s role in the World Cup, will be crucial in making a decision one way or another ahead of the summer transfer window reopening.
The Rossoneri will sign a striker after the Jean-Philippe Mateta deal collapsed, while a lot depends on potential outgoing transfers, which could involve the less than convincing Christopher Nkunku, but also Gimenez himself. However, the latter will soon have the opportunity to rewrite his story at Milan.
