Giornale: Milan decide Fonseca’s future ‘without waiting for another shipwreck’

According to a report, AC Milan – more specifically, the management – have made a decision about Paulo Fonseca’s future and they are not waiting for the Derby della Madonnina for any extra reasoning.

Without taking into account the Champions League fixture against Liverpool, Fonseca’s job would have probably been decided by the Derby, and he was already facing an uphill battle to keep his job, even after winning 4-0 against Venezia.

The perks of winning 4-0 are normally instilling confidence in your side and their ability to win games. However, this did not arrive after the Venezia game. Instead, it simply seemed like a postponement of any negativity.

Tuesday’s game against Liverpool then seemed like the restart, and after another loss where Milan looked clueless tactically, the management met after the game to discuss the future. According to a report, the meeting lasted until around midnight, and a report from Il Giornale (via Milan News) has suggested that a decision was made.

It seems that the Inter game will be Fonseca’s last, if the result goes how many expect it to, but the report from Giornale suggests that the management has already made a decision to move on ‘without waiting for another shipwreck’.

With Edin Terzic, Thomas Tuchel and Maurizio Sarri all waiting in the wings, the next decisions must be right if the Rossoneri are to salvage their season.

  1. Xavi mf Hernandez… made Cubarsi and Yamal into the stars they currently are! Also, Gavi and Lopez really developed under him and Barca managed to get out of bigger trouble due to Xavi!

Bring him and promote Liberalli, bench RLC and Calabria.
The only problem is how to fix RB and 2nd pivot issue.

Fofana can’t play regista or CDM role, he needs a stable and strong partner, like he always had at Monaco. and Calabria needs some time off to think, very poor from the Italian. The unfortunate part is that we only have Emerson Royal there…

    1. Anyone suggesting benching Calabria for Emerson Fng Royal is out of their mind and clearly understands nothing about football. I’m not saying Calabria is the best RB in the world but you don’t still replace a “decent” player with a bag of s**t.

      1. Calabria has a mental situation, he needs time to reflect and come back stronger! Emerson had 1-2 game, Calabria has been having issue since Scudetto… Don’t glaze cause he’s the captain

          1. did you watch Liverpool game? Florenzi is injured, Teracciano couldn’t even play friendlies normally… we sold off Kalulu for no reason…

We can keep beating the de*d horse but Calabria needs to wake up a little bit, or maybe shifted into 3men defense where his spacial awareness and man-to-man marking can shine, just like Napoli use DiLorenzo

    2. Xavi is not a good coach. With the team he had at Barcelona he should’ve done much better. They did not play good football even after revamping their entire roster.

      1. revamping means bringing Lewandowski, Raphinha and Kounde? They didn’t have anything working for them and he made them almost qualify for semi-finals, if Araujo didn’t turn his brain off during PSG game… and they won LaLiga during his 1st season… he was in an environment where he couldn’t even register his players properly and he brought out the entire LaMasia potential. If Xavi can bring out Yamal level from Camarda and gift us 2-3 other players from Futuro, that’s already worth!

Tuchel is the only other coach that has done more, and by more a UCL title which none of our coaches had achieved in the past 15 years… but I can never see Ibra “letting” Gerry pay 10M on salary for a coach, when it’s half of our mercato budget.

Other choices are Allegri, which is just RIP… Moyes, Mazzari, Tezic, Rudi Garcia, Potter are all trash.

That leaves only 3 coaches: Xavi, Sarri, and Sergio Conseicao… And if we compare last jobs Xavi was way more believable than Sarri.

Outside of these 3 + Tuchel is just ridiculous you have to agree at least on that…

    3. I think Zlatan’s comment about not hiring Conte because “Milan was looking for a coach and not a manager” can give us all a glimpse into who could replace Fonseca.

A cheap yes man. Simple and straightforward.

Terzic is the upcoming manager, all reputable managers will talk and criticize the management publicly, this management will never hire Tuchel, Xavi, Allegri or even Sarri. They might criticize Cardinale and his minions which is more threatening to them than poor results and bad players development.

  2. What did they expect? Fonseca is a bum. He flopped with Roma and came in 4th in the French league last season. Between him, Emerson, selling Simic and Maldini for a cup of espresso and refusing to buy a true DM, this management is proving to be clueless once again.

Last, if our first team doesn’t want to give 100% effort, call in the youth (Liberali, Zeroli, etc) at least they’ll give 100% effort.

  3. xavi is good with talents so i would love to have him here but milan is cheap and will go for someone like terzic but is much better than fonseca tho

  4. As I recall most were for Fonseca and more so when he got good results playing under 23s. Most have no idea how Gerry is manipulating everything! We sack the person who brought together a winning team and replace him with Ibra the show ponny!

    1. Funny, as I recall, “most” ranged from steadfastly against the idea to, not impressed but willing to see how it goes.

Similarly, I think the sentiment on here is largely against Redbird. Then there are are a few who seem staunchly pro-Redbird. And then a few like me, who see Redbird/Gerry as simply a pot of money which is no better or worse than any other pot of money in world football. Currently making some poor decisions? Absolutely. Redeemable? Absolutely.

  5. “Fng” said more than you wrote afterwards…you seem smart af and im not even a “ng”…lemme guess, italian?!I had confidence in Calabria but no more…he is also clueless and useless for some years now

  6. The was no team spirit in our game with Liverpool, lack of confidence.. why don’t we higher Ibrahimovic to be the coach until the end of the season..? He have a strong influence on players.

  7. Ha did you see ibras attitude at the last training vid before liverpool. He didnt care about being there. If he cared he wouldve been standing urging and shouting at the team training. He looked like he was moaning about being told off by redbird for posting inappropriate socials. Was forced to turn up and sit on a park bench. Looking at his watch to see when he could bugger off early. Ibra needs to go also

  8. Also after watching that training video. I knew milan werent going to win against liverpool. Too much joking about. Not taking it serious. Not focused. Way too casual

  9. They gambled and it backfired spectacularly. Will they be humble enough to appoint more of a sure thing? Truth is, they had set up Fonseca to fail from the start.

This team has been psychologically frail since like 2023, since well under Pioli and during his tenure that factor hadn’t improved. Were they really expecting Fonseca to fix years of flaws in a short preseason and 4 games in?

So whoever suggested Fonseca was the right man to take over should probably head out the door with him.
