Giornale: Milan initiate ‘new talks’ with Theo Hernandez over renewal – the details

By Ben Dixon -

AC Milan have been intent on signing Theo Hernandez’s renewal for several months, but there has been little movement until now. However, a report has claimed that new contacts have been made today.

When news broke earlier in the year that a star could depart, some feared that a repeat of the 2023 summer mercato could be on the cards, but that he seemed less likely as time has progressed. However, fears rose once again when Theo spoke about his chances of staying during the European Championship.

In the days before his interview, Zlatan Ibrahimovic had assured fans that Milan’s star trio would stay, so the fact that Hernandez said what he did sent things into chaos, but nothing positive or negative, has come to fruition so far.

According to a report from Il Giornale (via Milan News), progress could be made in the weeks to come, and the paper suggests that the first contacts have been made with his entourage about a renewal until 2028 worth €6 million per season.

However, there are suggestions that the negotiations will not close until after the mercato closes, and a decision could be reached in September.

Given the Frenchman’s value will drop as we draw closer to 2026, if negotiations are not closed by the end of the mercato, then it leaves the Rossoneri in a dangerous position going into next summer.
