Romano: Giroud proving to be a bargain for Milan with new deal to be discussed

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan will soon sit down with Olivier Giroud and agree the renewal of his contract as he continues to be decisive, according to a report.

In last night’s 4-1 win against Australia to begin the World Cup campaign for Les Blues, Giroud scored a brace that means he is now equal with Thierry Henry’s race as France’s all time top goalscorer, having moved on to 51 goals.

Giroud has not just been decisive for his country either as it is his form since joining Milan that got him a recall from Didier Deschamps. The 36-year-old has scored 22 goals in 55 total appearances for the Rossoneri, including several huge goals in the Serie A title win last season.

Fabrizio Romano reports how Milan invested less than €2m to sign him in 2021 from Chelsea – where he had fallen out of favour – but they are keen to extend his stay beyond June 2023 and a new deal will be discussed soon.
