Giroud remembers derby brace and says his dream is to ‘win the Scudetto with Milan’

Olivier Giroud has been an important player for AC Milan in the second half of the season, making up for the absence of Zlatan Ibrahimovic. And he has scored some very important goals, especially the brace against Inter.

In many ways, that game turned things around for the two Milan clubs. The Rossoneri were quite clearly not as good as their rivals in the clash, but the quickfire brace from Giroud turned the game around and also seemingly the following ones.

Speaking to Europe 1 Sport, as cited by our colleagues at SempreMilan.it, Giroud spoke about the brace in the derby and how it has helped him with the fans. He also stated that he wants to win the Scudetto with the team this season.

On his career…

“I’m very proud of my career, of the work done so far. When I retire, I will fully enjoy everything. All the clubs I have played in are part of the European elite. Something I couldn’t imagine as a teenager, you can’t imagine being that lucky. I feel blessed, I have won so many titles. One of my dreams was the Premier League. It’s still something I wish I had won. Now my other dream is to win the Scudetto with Milan.”

The brace in the derby…

“It gave me a lot of energy and confidence. We were 1-0 down that day. First derby for me. In three minutes, I blew up our fans. It was an incredible emotion that I will never forget. It’s one of the matches that count in a career and it made me enter the hearts of the fans.”

On Ibrahimovic…

“He’s fantastic. He’s a person with extraordinary charisma and personality. He has this way of communicating with the media that is his. He can seem very tough, impressive and sometimes intimidating. But he’s a normal person like you and me who has this love for football and for high-level standards.

“He passes it on to the youngsters, he takes up a lot of space, he has this role of a big brother, just like me, with our experience. When I started my career, he was already at the big clubs. My friends gave me one of his shirts when he was in Barcelona. He’s a person I talk to a lot. He shows that even at 35 or 40 you can continue to play,” he concluded.

Milan are currently three points ahead of Napoli and just eight games remain in the league, meaning they have everything in their own hands. It remains to be seen if they will be able to cope under the pressure.
