Giroud says emotional goodbye to Milan fans: “I will never forget these three seasons”

By Oliver Fisher -

Olivier Giroud said goodbye to the AC Milan fans and to his team-mates on the field at San Siro after tonight’s draw against Salernitana.

It was announced earlier in the month that Giroud will be leaving the club one his contract expires because he has decided to try a new adventure in the United States with MLS franchise Los Angeles FC. Tonight, therefore, was his final game for the club.

He signed off with a goal, too. A few minutes after the opening goal Giroud got the one that he was hoping when a corner from Florenzi on the left made its way to the Frenchman who was stood about eight yards out and he managed to volley it inside the post to double the advantage.

The Rossoneri would ultimately end up drawing 3-3 in Stefano Pioli’s last game in charge, but with nothing to play for the result felt irrelevant on a night that was all about giving recognition.

Giroud took the microphone and addressed the fans at San Siro at full-time, thanking them and the club for their support during his time. His words were relayed by MilanNews.

“Good evening San Siro. I want to thank the club for their trust, all the managers who welcomed me like a brother into this family,” he began.

“The trust of the directors, thanks to Ibra. I want to thank the coach for his trust and support in the difficult moments we shared. It is very important to stay united in these moments. We had an incredible first year, in my opinion one of the best emotions of my career.

“Above all, I want to thank all my team-mates, we are a team and a family. Thanks guys. This chorus will always remain in my heart [Si è girato Giroud].

“When we were little, Simon and I dreamed of this Milan. Today we have made a journey that makes us proud. I will never forget these three seasons at Milan. FORZA MILAN!”

    1. Realistically speaking he doesn’t make it into top 5. Maybe not even top 10. Milan had some very very top strikers throughout its history

    2. Unless your “One of the best 9” means a top 20 or top 30, Giroud is far from being one of the best 9 we’ve ever had. Milan has a rich history with many legendary strikers.

    1. I don’t think it’s a good Choice for Milan to hire Mauricio Pochecino as a Manager or a Coach.IMP is a disaster a failure. For me, Call Capello ,or Sachi or Andrea Pirlo,

  1. Not the best 9 we have, but you are the one that lifted the ‘no. 9 curse’ and truly make us believe in number 9 again – the best since Inzaghi.

Hopefully the next no. 9 will be able to surpass you.

Merci Giroud, you will always be remembered.
