GdS: Giroud returns to London to face a familiar foe – his numbers against Spurs

Olivier Giroud is back in London and is getting ready to face off against Spurs, a team who are not the biggest fans of him based on his past.

As La Gazzetta dello Sport report, Giroud answered a question about his return to London at a press conference on the eve of the game, starting his response in Italian and at one point continuing with English. He stopped, smiled, apologised and completed his answer: “After the Scudetto, we want to show that Milan are also strong in Europe.”

Giroud has often been an enemy to Spurs fans because of his past at Arsenal (2012-18) and Chelsea (2018-21). With the Blues he won the Champions League and with the Gunners he won domestic honours and left the Premier League speechless thanks to that scorpion kick goal against Crystal Palace.

The Rossoneri striker has played 32 away games against teams from London, with a record in perfect balance: 13 wins, 13 defeats, 6 draws and 9 goals scored. Tonight it will be Tottenham once again, a team he has scored 4 times against in 19 games, with 2 each for Arsenal and Chelsea.

With Zlatan Ibrahimovic not in the squad, Giroud is the player with the most experience and appearances (53) in the Champions League in the Rossoneri squad. This season he has been a protagonist in Europe with 4 goals (a brace against Salzburg at the San Siro and the goals scored in the two games against Dinamo Zagreb) and 2 assists.

  1. Giroud is the man …a top man ,and a real centre forward ..he will relish this challenge ,with his sheer strength and heading ability…Tottenham do not deal with crosses into the penalty area very well at all .
Olivier will be a key man tonight…with rafeol leao alongside him ,we will win this game ..
