Intermediary insists Giroud rejected Spurs, Man City and Inter before joining Milan

By Oliver Fisher -

An intermediary close to Olivier Giroud has revealed that the striker was close to several other clubs before he ended up joining AC Milan.

The former Chelsea man scored three goals across the games against Inter and Napoli in 2022, being the match-winner in each and showing that he is very much the man for the big occasion. He seems to have also tackled the curse of Milan’s No.9 shirt in the process.

In his 18 games as a starter, the Rossoneri’s record reads 13 wins, 4 draws and only 1 defeat. He has scored 10 of his 11 goals at San Siro this season, but on Sunday in Naples he finally got his first away goal.

Giroud’s intermediary Vincenzo Morabito gave some background on where the 35-year-old could have ended up and how his move to Milan ultimately came to fruition after countless links with other teams.

“He had chosen to join Milan since February, but Chelsea broke the promise to sell him without a transfer fee. Maldini wanted him and was really determined to sign him and Oliver accepted to cut his salary to sign for Milan,” he said (via Twitter).

“Inter had practically signed him two years ago. He was also one step away from Lazio and Juventus. Serie A was in his destiny and the marriage to Milan was perfect. He can be the Scudetto man.

“He rejected many bids to sign for Milan last summer. Manchester City, Tottenham, West Ham and New York City wanted Olivier, but had chosen to join Milan. Now he dreams to win Scudetto.

“In the summer Giroud strongly wanted the No.9 shirt at Milan. Maldini was unsure because it had gone badly [for others], but Olivier broke the curse with personality. Giroud wants to stay in the Rossoneri for a long time and end his career at Milan.”
