Giroud wants ‘even more with Milan’ and thinks ‘we are ready’ for Chelsea clash

By Euan Burns -

AC Milan striker Olivier Giroud has said that he wants to achieve even more with the club and he thinks they are ready for the match against Chelsea.

Speaking during a press conference the night before the Champions League fixture (via Milan News), the French striker spoke with confidence about what Milan can achieve in the tournament this season.

He thinks that with their ability and pride, Milan can do well, saying: ” I was lucky to come back to Montpellier with Arsenal, today I am very happy to be back at Stamford Bridge. After the Scudetto we now want to do well in the Champions League with humility and great confidence in our football and our qualities.”

He was asked whether he told his Rossoneri teammates what to expect from a Champions League match at Stamford Bridge but he focused more on how Milan are ready to get what they need.

“I told them that I am very proud to come here with the great Milan and play in the Champions League. The atmosphere will make it a great Champions League game. They have played some great games. I think we are ready. The pitch is wonderful, it will be a great game.”

Giroud has had some very big moments in his long professional career and he agreed when asked if this match will be one of the biggest given his past with the opponent.

“Yes. The World Cup was a crazy emotion, but the party with the fans in Milan also. I am a competitive guy, and so is the team. We want to do well in this Champions League. I always want to win, these trophies have given me great pride. I want even more with Milan, we want to do well in the Champions League.”

He admitted that given there has been a switch from Thomas Tuchel to Graham Potter, he does not know as much about how Chelsea will play as the Milan fans may want him to know.

“I hope they will welcome me well, I’ve had good years here: I’ve got on well with the club. As for the team, I know the boys, I played many games with them.

“They have changed coach so I don’t know exactly how they will play. If Tuchel was still there maybe I could have helped a bit more. They are on a new project so it’s a matter of time to get back to their best level. I am sure they will have a good season in the Premier League.”

He has been compared to Chelsea forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang but he said that he does not care who is the better striker out of the two.

“I don’t want to know who is the strongest, I just want to win with AC Milan. It’s true that we both played with Arsenal and Chelsea, but that’s the only similarity between us. He is strong, I know him well. But if we win tomorrow it won’t depend on one player. We win with the whole team.”
