Giroud believes Milan can replicate last season’s European run

Olivier Giroud is hoping for a happy return to his home country tonight with a positive result and possibly a goal as AC Milan take on Paris Saint-Germain.

For Milan the mission is simple: to try and put the 1-0 defeat to Juventus on Sunday behind them by getting a first win in Europe in 2023-24, but it is far easier said than done against a PSG side stacked full of talent.

Giroud spoke to Sky in an interview that was aired on the eve of the game against PSG and he outlined the team’s aim in this year’s edition of the competition, with his words relayed by MilanNews.

“We are concentrated and ready to do well, the defeat against Juve didn’t affect us, now we have to think about this match, then we will think about Napoli because we want to do well in Serie A,” he said.

“The Champions League is always wonderful, I’m happy to return here to France and face PSG. We have the will to continue on the same path we did last year, against Tottenham and Napoli we proved that we are one European top, we will have to do it again tomorrow evening.”

As part of his media duties the French striker also spoke to SportMediaset in view of the game, which he hopes will make the end of a goal drought.

“We are ready to give everything, we will have to be at 110% of our strength and quality because they are strong, but so are we. It’s a shame that the goal was missed against Juve, I have to stay calm and work well for the team,” he said.

“Goal or victory? I choose victory. I gave some advice to my team-mates on Mbappè, but it will be fundamental to all stay united during the 90 minutes. We will have to play a perfect match and turn the corner our path in the Champions League, we are here for the first victory.”

Milan have so far drawn 0-0 against Newcastle and Dortmund in the group stages, while the Parisians beat the Bundesliga side 2-0 but lost 4-1 in England.
